@ 60K what next:(

im almost on the verge of turning over to 60k and i was wondering im a few paychecks away from getting my timing belt done. if i go over the 60k mark is my timing belt going to automatically jump timing or can it wait a few more miles? do u have to change the water pump too?

your car isnt programmed to start giving you those problems at certain intervals... get the stuff replaced if you can afford it, if not then drive it til its broken.

thats probably bad advice though. oh well

That is bad advice. You could be looking at a new engine if the timing belt snaps.

Yea man you get let is slide a couple of thousand miles. If you get it done at 65-66k you should be fine.

Youll be fine, just drive carefully until you get the money to replace the belt

Yea just take care of it when your funds permit, you should be fine. You def don't want to skip the timing belt and I would recommend to R+R the Water Pump while you're in there. It would suck to have that thing leak 1 week after you replace the belt. You are getting in there already - spend a few more $'s and get it done.

Never run the gambit with an interference motor on timing belts. Its ok to wait until something breaks in a toyota camry because the engine can be retimed with the evo you will be replacing your head or worse.

If you have to wait just don't rev up the motor high, higher rpm means more belt wear and tear. Keep the rpm's reasonable and even a shoddy belt will make it home.

This is what happens to interference motors when timing belts go bad.

its all preventative maintence, your WP and timing belt aren't going to just go, thats just when the dealer suggest replacement, your timing belt might have 85k miles in it, but its better to change it sooner than find out the hard way, cuz its really hard to pull valves outta your piston LOL

I have seen timing belts on EVO's that looked like they could go at 50k miles. I would suggest to take of the cam gear cover and at least inspect the belt for wear or damage.

PS. On my 2003 EVO with 23k miles the balance shaft belt broke and wrapped around the timing belt causing my car to jump time. Luckly not enough to do any damage.

Judging from timing belts Ive seen on my DSMs and my EVO, some need to be changed at 50k, some look OK at 70k... it really depends, but 60 of course is the safe time.

I changed mine at 63k on my EVO and the belt looked OK.. just OK, not good, but not in any danger of catastrophic damage. Either way, just get it changed as soon as possible! I did not do the water pump at 60. That shouldnt be a problem so Id do that at 120k.
