MY 2.3L/3076R Build. (56k....haha)

UPDATE POST 71- NEW DYNOGRAPHS

5/2008- went out and did some pulls and when I got back i had rodknock time for a built engine.....

I autox the car heavily and do HPDE's so i knew that a laggy setup just wasnt gonna work for me. i decided on a stroker.

I pulled the engine out and I had spun a main bearing. I sent out my longblock to JAM (www.jacksonautomachine.com) to have it built with their 2.3L stg 2 stroker and stg 2 head. during the build I came across a great deal on a gt3076r. I had originally wanted to use a green but I decided against it because I was fearful of excessive boost taper. Im glad i went with the 30r.

After the build and break-in was done I went and had it tuned at swift motorsports by matt (mixmastermatt) on the stock ecu. Matt did an awesome job and the car pulls like a freight train.

the car was tuned on straight 93 oct at 26 psi (*note- Matt initially tuned the car with HKS 264 I/E cams, after that I installed Kelford TX272's and re-maped the car myself. I then went back to swift and dynoed the car again and matt touched up the tune)

you can see that I lost some low end with the larger cams, but the top end more than made up for it!

However, in my haste to complete the build I installed an RNR t3 turbokit for the meantime, the 02 housing on the kit is not ideal to put it lightly (2.25" ). over the winter i plan on switching to a shearer kit

mod list
JAM stg 2 2.3L
weisco pistons
oliver rods
JAM stg 2 head
+1mm valves
upgraded springs/ retainers
Kelford TX272
RNR turbokit
GT3076R .63 PTE ext housing
ETS 3" intake
APS FMIC
walboro FP
PTE 880cc/min injectors
Stock ECU (thanks tephra!)
greddy kevlar timing belt
buschur TBE bullit muffler
hallman pro rx mbc
tial 38mm wastegate
stock 9 crushed DV

Stock MAF
Stock UCIP
Stock TB
Stock IM

Ive completed a couple autox's on this setup and it is really responsive, I will be attending the speedjunkies trackday at etown for the first road-course test with the new setup .

some pics of the car itself

Awesome project, and nice numbers for 93! I also have a RR 03 that I autoX, and have been looking into a very similar setup, so this is close to the heart.
Do you find yourself hitting the rev limiter while autocrossing the 2.3? That has been one my primary concerns about a 2.3.
Looks like you could benefit from the Street Mod standard of some 285/30/18 R comps with all that power.

haha, im destroying the azenis that are on there now, ill have some fresh r-comps for next season.

as for the rev limiter i havent hit it yet during a run, but the courses ive been to didnt have very long straights. JAM says that 8000 is fine for the stroker but for now im just gonna keep it at 7600 unless it becomes a problem

Sweet. I was waiting for your thread. Our setups are so freaking similar I can't believe it. I've got HKS 264's in my car! Our heads are basically the same, upgraded springs and retainers with 1mm OS valves. And I've got the same turbo and manifold.

I'm building my O2 housing 3 inch. It's going to be tricky but I think I can rig something. I'm going to grind out the flange to quickly transition form 2.25 to 3 inch and slice up the mandrel bend I have to make a tight radius.

I've been considering getting some Kelford 272's... I like the idea of keeping the 264's to keep the peak torque in the lowest RPM possible, but they do seem to run out of breath.

hmmm, maybe you can fab up two 3" 02 housings??? for a fee of course

as for the cams, i would upgrade over the 264's, the slight loss in low end is worth the trade off in high end power

Do you have a pictures of the engine compartment? I'd like to see how everything fits with clearances etc.

I'll let you know how the 02 housing fab goes and works out. I think the RNR manifold is OK, it's very similar in design to Full-Race Honda manifolds which are very proven. So swapping out the O2 housing could do the trick.
