help with pictured tcase leak below, please!
OK, here is how I did the seal:
- Went to harbor frieght and get a seal puller tool - its like $4 or something. Looks like a screwdriver with a claw hook
- Get a ginormous socket - mine was from Sears - It says 2 on it - it was in the standard section. It allows the axle seal lip to tuck in inside it and rests firmly up against the part that needs tapped in.
- get all the stuff off you need like downpipe, axle etc and insert in claw part and pull gently. Use the seal as levearge, not the tcase etc to work the seal out. Comes out pretty easily
- clean the tcase seal seating area. Lube it up well with grease (seal and the tcase)
- Hold seal up against it and tap the 4 corners (well, its round but you get the idea) with a mallet or hammer gently, so seal is held in place.
- Put a little grease on socket, stick axle seal lip into socket and then tap it in gently round and round making sure seal goes in straight and even. If one side goes in a little to far, tap the other sides to compensate.
- We tried using a mallet and a small hammer and neither worked. Finally a bigger hammer helped with it going on. You have to use a little force, but not like pounding force. let the head of the hammer do the work with smooth swings.
Hope this helps!
