White smoke from engine when under boost
White smoke from engine when under boost
I have researched this as much as i could on the forum to see what others have posted and none have really stated the same problem that i have. So here is what ive been dealing with for the last few weeks.
Under boost (10psi or more) i get a ton of smoke from the engine bay through the top vent of the hood. There has been some oil loss but no coolant loss. I started by taking my car to the dealership and they swore up and down it was a blown turbo. I said no way since i have no loss of power, no smoke in the exhaust, and no oil in the IC Pipes or Exhaust pipe. I have blown one turbo before (stock one) and i remember the noise it makes and the oil pouring out of my car through the exhaust and when i took off the IC pipes. I then changed the turbo return line from the turbo to the oil pan and the problem still existed. I chaged the line that feeds the turbo from the head to the top part of the turbo (which is now an FP Green) and still smoke comes out.
Finally i was able to make it smoke and pull over right away and was able to see under the manifold on the right two cylinders of the block it was wet, like shiny and wet and smoking from there. So after a second trip back to the dealership to explain to them that they missed this and jumped right to the turbo being blown they took the car from me for the day and drove it and then called to say that they think its an exhaust leak. So now im like WTF are you blind?? there is something wet on the front of the block and pointed it out to the service advisor and he was like there is nothing he can do for it, but i can leave the car there for a few days and they will continue to look into it, (for $85/hr mind you) so now im stuck cause i dont know what to do next. im leaning towards a head gasket leak since there is nothing else i can really think of that would be leaking in that area and spraying agaist the block. the only thing i have left to do is change out the two coolant lines that feed the turbo and see if that clears it.. any other suggestions on what to do or test for next???

^+1 on that
definitely coolant is entering your combustion chamber if you are puffing the white smoke out the tailpipe. if its just the engine bay look for leaks.
sounds like the stealership is trying to milk your situation out and get some dough outta you be careful
personnally if ppl gave me that careless attitude i would not let them touch my car much less pay aholes like that my hard earned money
if they cant give u the respect and attention as a paying customer i say *** em.
also check your radiator good u might have a pinhole leak somewhere that is spraying the area u stated.
this actually happened to a car of mine i thought it was the block but it ended up just being a pinhole leak on my radiator that was squirting the block with coolant.

if you dont have ARP head studs GET THEM!!! take off the vlavle cover and get someone who knows what they are doing to take out the stockers and put the ARPS in, had similar problem, not thje same but around the ball park. You may have lifted the head somehow and you just need to TORQUE that Sh-it DOWN!
update: the car has sat the last few days but i checked the fluids before driving it and there is not coolant loss at all.. only oil loss. So i drove it and got the smoke again when under boost and the smell was not sweet (some say coolant smells sweet when it burns) A friend of mine was with me and said that it was def oil burning off and it looks like its coming from the corner of the head gasket area.. so i ordered a new Head Gasket and praying this solves the issue. But no its a matter of installing the gasket that i have heard it a PITA!!! and most places want a lot of $$$$ to do the job..

Evo8dad was my next PM.. i have met him in person at Warminster Park when he was doing the Auto-x. Peruzzi Mitsu is the one dealership not to go to.. they will not even touch a modded Evo and by modded i mean an air filter.. I went there and they wanted 10+ hours of time to do the job and they said they will not be liable if anything happens to the car.. The one dealership TO go to is Fred Beans in Doylestown.. The service advisor Mark is one awsome dude and never turns an Evo away. The head tech there, Brian is amazing and will fix your car right the first time.. there are always Evos there for service and most are more modded than mine.. I have sent countless friends there for work and they have never told me one bad thing about their experience there.. As for my car, Beans said they would do it and bill me around 7 hrs which isnt bad.. I think ill take a suggestion and ask Evo8Dad and see what he says.. thanks for all your tips and advice
