Quiet is my discontinued Magnaflow Ti & DC Sports DP. It is quite mellow and refined.

Have you thought about keeping your quietest combination so far and putting in sound deadening material like dynamat or a cheaper alternative? You'd add some weight, but you could keep your hp up with the straight flow muffler?

Even just strategic sound deadening like on the floor of the interior and trunk would likely keep a lot of sound out and keep the added weight below than your center of gravity.

I want it to be quiet on the outside as well.

^^ dude you know what would be a good option for someone like you?

Get an HFC first and foremost, it reduces sound quite noticeably

Secondly, maybe go with a partial exahust system. Like just get the works intermediate pipe and thats it. Or just get the axle back and not the intermediate pipe. That way you can still somewhat salvage some power. I would suggest just gettin the axleback cause I think thats the part of the stock exhaust thats most restrictive

Well this is how I see things. Right now I have a full stainless steel 3" system. I found a place that makes a muffler with chambers and is 3" as well. So there are no tapers inside, just chambers that redirect flow at the same time reducing the sound. With the stock system, its not stainless steel and its 2.2-2.5 inches in diameter piping with chambers. So I figured 3" will out flow 2.2-2.5 any day and I wont worry about rust with the stainless steel.

I know that a HFC will quiet things down drastically, but I'm trying to stay quiet with out a cat. That would be one of my last options to quiet things down further if need be.

Anyways since I'm putting a 3" with chambered muffler, running a resonated test pipe will be one other restriction I wont have to worry about.

As soon as the my RRE exhaust sells, I'm moving forward with this project quickly.

Unless you all want to pitch in 5 bucks to help fund this project? Twenty people X 5 dollars each = 100 dollars of help.

I think you are nuts to use a chambered muffler. They aren't quieter than a good straight-through, but they are much heavier (typically not stainless steel all the way through) and are more restrictive. Check out the Magnaflow options or maybe Vibrant as well.

I lined my lower trunk with dynamat within 2 months of owning the car. I initially thought the stocker was too boomy for my taste.

Some chambered mufflers are still pretty loud, but I have heard a few that did a really good job of muting obtrusive exhaust notes while providing a bass filled refined sound. Just haven't been able to find a solution for the Evo.

To date, the RRE Stealthback 3" with Rally-cat has been the quietest true 3" tbe I've heard. And I've heard damn-near everything. If you consider the Rally-cat a 12" long resonator, that would be a total of 48" of resonators with a big magneflow straight through muffler. The problem will be finding a big@ss muffler to replace the magneflow piece that will outflow the stocker and only increase the db slightly. The answer is out there somewhere.

Not true. Anybody that has studied flowpath theory knows that any expanse in a given path nets more flow overall. So a car with a 3 inch dp and stock cat back will have less back pressure than a completely stock vehicle. I am in the SAME exhaust boat as you. I have the tanabe touring medallion and loved it. Until I added the tanabe downpipe and cat delete. Now I'm going to swap in the stock cat back and retain the downpipe and test pipe. To me, extra power is not worth comfort.

people forget how much exhaust gases cool by the end of the exhaust. you want large diameter out of the turbo and taper to a proper diameter by the tailpipe. It isn't about size, despite what your girlfriend tells you, it is about velocity

Your stock catback will be fine... But its still going to be deep and loud with the cat missing.

Noise = power (in most cases)

I don't agree with this completely
mine was not loud at all with a 3"DP, testpipe, and stock catback.
when you get on it, it does get a little throaty, but at cruise and idle you almost can't tell its changed at all.
