Stock Cat-back max power numbers
Stock Cat-back max power numbers
I am looking to find out what is the max power and/or quartermile times/trap speeds set using the stock cat-back exhaust. Also post your supporting mods.
Unfortunately my first exhaust Tanabe Medallion, 2nd Cobb, and my current RRE stealth are just not quiet enough for my taste. This is why I am considering possibly running the stock cat-back with a 3" downpipe and testpipe. Will that be quiet inside the cabin to the point were I cant hear the exhaust?
I'm looking mainly to see if trapping 120-125 mph is possible with the stock catback.
I remember reading a post were a member here trapped 117 mph with stock catback but I cant seem to find it. If your reading this please post up.
Thanks,

There are a few quiet catbacks available on the market and a high flow cat will give you a performance gain over a stock cat.
Its was Dan Bajalis that went 117 with the stock cat back. Because exhausts on turbo cars make so much power, you won't find the answer you are looking for. No one has tried to see how fast they can go on the stock cat back because they simply don't care.
Im willing to test it on my car in the next week or two (on the dyno) if there are enough people that are interested and want to throw together some money to offset the cost of additional dyno time.

I have to say the Tanabe Medalion touring is quiet as it gets, even meets the 93db limit..if thats loud then indeed you are getting old, and my guess is I have more then a few years on you. Stock wasn't much quieter if at all.
Well here is the problem, I dont like the E-cutout because not only do I want to be quiet during normal driving but also at WOT. I've also heard that they eventually begin to leak etc....
I want to keep 3" downpipe and resonated test pipe with my setup. And so far I have had the following cat-back sections in order:
-Tanabe Medalion: Was stockish quiet until I put a resonated test pipe but still running the stock downpipe.
-Cobb down pipe+Catback with MR resonated testpipe. Quiet until but eventually not quiet enough.
-RRE stealth exhaust- Also quiet but not quiet enough.
For me quiet means I cant hear it inside the cabin, or just barely. With the above exhausts stock sound volume at 25 is when the music over powers the exhaust note.
I wouldnt care as much if it was a dedicated race car, but its a daily street car. In my opinion loud exhausts = RICE, annoying and embarrassing.
I was thinking possibly running FP RED with 3" downpipe testpipe and stock catback? I know the stock piping is a resistriction but by how much? I'm not trying to squeeze every inch of power. If the stock cat-back only causes 10-15 whp difference then I'm willing to sacrafice that.
Oh and for the record I'm turning 25 in november and hated loud exhausts since I was 18.

How much money is needed for the offset?
I'm also contemplating doing the same thing. I'm tired of having to turn my music way up just to hear cause of the exhaust. I will still keep my downpipe and test pipe. I even went back to stock intake/uicp over aftermarket cause the sound started annoying the hell outta me. I don't need or want to be heard everywhere I drive.
If you are looking for quiet, I have been very, VERY happy w/the Fujisubo RM-01A exhaust. It has twin resonators and a large muffler. It is very quiet, has no drone on the freeway and has made 319 Mustang dyno HP on 91 octane fuel w/a cam & a Green turbo...also have a 100 cell MIL.SPEC cat on the car, so no smell either!
Just my .02,
