Air flow meter restrictions?

I've heard the stock air flow meter is good for up to 400hp at the wheels. Is this true? for those of you making more than that (Al), how did you get around it? Did you switch to a MAP sensor?

I've ordered the Apex PowerFC, but the one offered for the U.S. Evo 8 is a L-Jetro (not D-Jetro) so it uses the stock air flow meter.

Any thoughts? A larger turbo (GT30 sized, 3037) is being built for me right now.

Thanks a bunch!
