Ticking only at idle

Car is making some weird noises. On cold start, high idle the PS pump is making a ton of noise, not worried about that, but once the car is warmed up there is a non-rhythmic ticking coming from the motor. Revving the motor up slightly makes the noise go away. With the AC on at idle it makes the noise even more noticeable. It reminds me alot of the evap purge valve on 1.8T VW motor, but I can't find anything on this one. I don't think its a lifter since it is only at idle. Any ideas?

Did you do a cam swap w/o bleeding the lifters? What weight oil are you using?

Sounds like lifter tick to me; mine goes away with increased oil pressure.

Oil is 10w30 Mobil 1 full synthetic changed every 3-5k miles (since I have owned it, past 20k miles). The only reason I don't think it is a lifter tick is because it is not constant, it is very sporadic, like tick.... tick tick.... tick... tick... tick tick tick.... tick. And even increasing revs by 1-200RPM gets rid of it. Also it does not get louder with the oil cap removed, and doesn't seem to becoming from the valve cover (using the good old screw driver stethoscope method), seems to be coming from around the intake manifold.

Is there an evap valve in these cars? It could very well be a coil arching out, but the car runs flawlessly. I'll look to see if there is anything out of the ordinary there.

For the PS pump, do these have the same problems that the DSM's had with the bearings going bad, or should I just replace the whole pump?

Injectors are noisy, but rhythmic with RPM...

I have the exact same problem. A mechanic told me its from the injectors but never told me why they were making this noise. Whats wrong with them?

Is your ticking rhythmic, or real sporadic?

If it's out of sync you have a rebel valve... Might need to replace your lifters.

I don't follow, how could it be a valve (lifter) if its not ticking proportion to rpm?

PCV valve, noise coming from the intake mani area, put a screwdriver on the pcv that comes out the back of the V-cover routed into the intake mani
