Interested in 2.1 destroked from Slowboy

Just needing peoples opinions on this swap it will be used with a Mivec head. I just want to see how reliable this setup is and any negatives I could be facing. I have searched but didnt find too much info with the Mivec head

You just suffered a failure correct??

Please dont set yourself up for another!!!!

The only 2.1 in the land worth running is built by AMS for a very steep pricetag. But if you got the grip do it.

If not just consider going 2.0 or 2.3 , And only 2 in the land worh having doing the build . Buschur Racing or AMS

I know why you are looking into the 2.1 cause the 4G64 blocks are cheap and you can use your crank for the destroke. Look around for usable blocks there out there.Trust me I suffered a failure as well that required a good used block. but I found it for a good price.

And it was game on with Buschur Racing .

Maybe send Mike @ AWD motorsports a pm , I remember him saying he always has alot of blocks / heads etc.

I am curious about this 2.1 configuration. So, it is the 4G64 block with a 4G63 crank? What is the bore and stroke? What about rod length and pistons? Is this a quick revving setup?

https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...ht=end+stroker

read that.

i wouldnt waste the time with a 2.1 de-stroker unless it was a 42r car that i wanted to attempt to rev beyond 10000rpm all the time

2.0 is where its at!

Slowboy has had a series of well publicized failures with their 2.1 engines in the past. I can't speak for what they produce now.

There are a number of shops that build quality shortblocks, including 2.1L motors.
Magnus has been building a variety of high end strokers for years. RRE builds good motors in SoCal. Buschur and AMS are well known and build good motors, but they are certainly not the "only 2 in the land worth doing the build".

None of the shops you mention do ALL of their machine work in house as we do... we have more quality control built in here than 99% of the shops in the US, especially when it comes to motors - this is the main reason we build so many - !!

The last 2.1l we used ourselves in competition was 07 Rally America at 100 ACRE WOOD Rally - we finished on the podium with a 2.1l built here in our EVO IX. If our 2.1l can work under these conditions - it can work in your street car.

The only known failure on EVO M with a 2.1l was an overzealous customer who liked to use to much grey RTV... however it was easier to blame us. Who would want to admit they put enough RTV on an oil galley block off plug to block oil from getting where it needed to go... ??? No one would - so blame us for the rod bearing failure that had no oil getting to it.

I also used a 2.1l in most of my own DSM's - and even bent a few PAR rods in the process (Magnus rods)... thank goodness Manley has been suppying the new 162 mm rods for some time now with no issues.

I do agree however unless you really need to push the performance envelope - you do not NEED a 2.1l... but they are silky smooth and rev like mad.

The Magnus 2.1 is a very well built motor. If i was going to buy a built 2.1 that would be what i would buy.

I like Mahle as well - but I do not think they have an 87 mm bore stroker piston available unless it is something I have not seen before... (which is entirely possible)...

You going to run a stock bore 4G64 block (86.5) or .020" over (87)mm?

I bent all four as well - about three years ago... have not used any since.

I have never seen the Manley rods fail in this fashion - so I will stick with them!

The bore is dependent on what my machinist tells me. If I can get away with the stock bore, thats what I want. This is a street car above all else. Im also keeping the balance shafts in place for just this reason.
