intercooler spray

Do you have to hit the auto mode for the intercooler spray everytime you turn the car on. I've noticed the light stays on when I turn it on, but If I turn the car off and back on the light is gone. Should the spray be used sparingly or is it ok for everyday driving?

Use it only when you race. It doesn't need it for everyday driving, unless you race from light to light. Yes, the spray turns off when you turn your car off.

I'd like to know if anyone is putting ice water in there for the track, or some other super-cold liquid. The IC is aluminum I presume?

How does the auto switch work? Is there a temp sensor on the IC which is used to determine the spray point? What temperature triggers a spray?

I've just been using washer fluid. A friend of mine said he knew someone who used rubbing alcohol because it cooled better and evaporated quicker, but that sounds kinda sketchy to me. I don't know if I want something that flammable getting sprayed on a hot engine. Any thoughts?

Washer fluid is brilliant; it's basically diluted alcohol, so it's not flamable and it won't freeze during the winter. Good call! I definitely would not be using anything not severely diluted.

Washer fluid is what the owner manual recommends also. You don’t want water freezing in the winter and damaging the IC spray.

Okay, I haven't seen this light. Is it on the
dashboard or the switch somewhere?

Now I have to go look!

Is there anything better to use than washer fluid. More effective cooling? Better evaporation? Any ideas?

There is a light that comes on inside the same circle as the word LANCER on the far right side of the gauge cluster where the speedometer, and tach are. It comeson when the key is in the on position. It lights up green. Hit the button for the intercooler spray on the side marked auto and the light should come on. It lights up green.

Just use distilled water unless you live somewhere where it's already reaching freezing temps at night. Using washer fluid, although recommended by the manual, is a waste unless it is winter time.
