Shifter bushing question
I'm looking to flush my tranny fluid out with amsoil hoping to get rid of the notchy shifting on 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gear. It's an evo 9 MR stock car. (obviously 6 speed).
If this doesn't help smooth it out. Should I look into getting the shifter bushing replaced? If so, what brand and type for 6 speed? Any suggestion on upgrading for better shifting would be appreciated.
FYI, the car was purchased without any service record. As far as the dealer is concern, no mods on the car. The car is completely stock.
Thanks,
Klo

Go with the AMS shifter bushings, they have them for $35 w/free shipping, I just installed mine this weekend.

Do all three and you will have a better shifting Evo unless there is some sort of damage in the tranny.

These are my comments to an earlier thread -
And same here, I installed the Speed Source bushings in our Evo VIII back when they first came out and have never had any problems, never had to lube them up either. This is not a good location for aluminum or grease. The grease will collect dirt and grit and create wear problems, plus they’ll start hanging up again. During the summer months around here the under hood temperatures will cause it to melt away, dragging more dirt and grit into the bushing. The properties of anti-seize are more appropriate than grease, especially for aluminum. Brass or even bronze are better for this because with those metals they have some self-lubricating properties when used in this application.
WORKS (and others) are correct about the poly bushings. The durometer reading for their poly bushings is much higher than the rubber bushings we’re replacing. I’m going to add a set just for GP to try them out.

Ok now its hard to decide. aluminum or poly?
Also is it neccessary to get the console base ones too? Or will the underhood shifter bushing be just fine?
Sorry for stretching the thread.

you will notice the underhood more than the base shifter bushings, I had them both on my old Evo and the underhood bushings are more noticable.
I did the underhood first on my current Evo and just now ordered the base bushings.
I had trouble deciding on poly or aluminum myself. My first set was bronze so I decided to go with the AMS two piece design this time, cant notice a difference between the two as its just been to long.

I agree that the underhood bushings will give you the most noticeable difference. I have replaced my underhood bushings with polyurethane ones, my shifter bushings with metal ones and my front motor mount bushing with a polyurethane one.

Not a problem Klo, check this thread out too, should answer your question about aluminum -

We never had to go as far as changing the front motor mount, but some seem to have more problems than others.

i have the buschur racing underhood bushings, and the kartboy shifter base bushings. i like them. i wouldn't really say that they help smooth the shifts necessarily, but i feel they do make shifting more "solid" and makes it easier to find the gears.
