3rd Gear Wont Go In Easy, Why?

I need help with a tranny problem I am having. Here is the problem I am having:

When I am driving my car (EVO MR) and going to shift from 2nd to 3rd it will not go in easy. It shake unless I push on it a little it grinds then goes in. If I raise the RPM's and let them go down as Im shifting it will slide in easy. All other gears will shift as normal with no problem at all. 3rd gear is the only one I am having a problem with.

Could it be my tranny, clutch, or what?

It could be your clutch, but it could be your syncro's as well.

yes the syncros must be on their way cause you must have banged 3rd times a too many.

Try shifting through the gears with the car off not pressing the clutch. If it is very easy going through all of them this way, more then likely it's the clutch. However, if your extremely hard on the car, and do a lot of high RPM shifting, I wouldn't rule out the synchro.

first thing first, did you try adjusting your clutch??? My third gear was a pain in the butt until I adjusted the clutch and its not a problem anymore. Try putting in some fresh tranny fluid in.

sounds like your synchro. Mine has been grinding for a long time now. Only when the car is hot and i try to shift really fast it will grind. I just pause for a split second and then it never grinds. Annoying but I'll probably end up getting it rebuilt in the future.

my 3rd gear was grinding after some adjusting it went away, but since yours is a MR 6-speed (weak trans) it could possibly be the synchro.
