Question rwd conversion

Has anyone heard of anyone making a rear wheel drive conversion for the Evo? I know all wheel drive is a great part of the evo but, for drag racing or drifting this would be a great mod. Any thoughts?

I'm not really into drifting, just more curious than anything.

You can't drift with 4wd car? Fact is you can drift with either fwd, rwd or 4wd. You just need to master the skill.

As for drag race, 4wd has some disadvantage. No tires burn out.... But I still think 4wd got more grib to the ground.

As I said I was mainly just wondering if such a thing even existed, since I have read about almost any other type of mod you could want or not want to do on here.

Easy way would be a welded center diff and pull a front half shaft. The question would be if the rear diff and rest of the rear drivetrain would be up to the task of handling all of the torque

AWD make the best drifters with enough HP
FWD = slide not drift (unless you want to count understeer )

I don't know if there is anyone in the history of evo who has converted their evos to RWD.

I also have the use of a chassis dyno that is set up for rear wheel drive at work. Unfortunately there is no 4wheel roll around here.

I know this is kinda old, but the scoobies have a rwd conversion and I read somewhere that one with over 300hp to all 4, converted and had well over 500 at the rear. Any more info on this?

Someone has done a RWD conversion on an evo5 but it took major chassis modification to make room for the gearbox. Heres some pics:

That not a RWD Evo, it’s a 4WD that has had the engine swung around 90 degrees. The guy (in Sweden I think) did it to help with weight distribution and for the fact that you can build a much stronger/simpler transmission if the engine is north/south. The conversion would have cost a fortune. I have seen pictures of the sump that was custom CNC machined from billet aluminium (as a one off)! There have been huge amounts spent on this car, and I think that this is the reason that you don’t see many Evos in rallycross as to get them to be competitive and reliable you need to go to these extents (transverse gearboxes on a 4WD are a pain in the ***, look at the WRC Focus)! If you look at all the rallycross Focuses around the world you will see that they all have a similar conversion done (much easier it think).
