Brief whine in first gear... what could it be?
Just yesterday I started hearing an odd noise while rolling in first gear.
Here are the facts:
Anyone else experienced this? If yes did you get rid of it? Thanks.
Here are the facts:
- 2006 IX, 5-speed, 18000mi
- At 2300rpm the whining starts, gets louder up to 2500, then dissipates by 2700rpm.
- The sound is similar to a car driving in reverse.
- I do not hear it in any other gear.
- It only makes the noise while I'm moving.

Whine in first and second gears are normal. Even slight T-case whine is normal at lower speeds. If you notice an annoying whine at highway speeds, report back. That means there are issues
Mine whines all the time in first gear, really loud, you can hear it outside the car! I've been told that it's normal for the EVO so I don't really mind it that much now, I was sweatin' it pretty bad when it started though!
Sorry to bring up a month old thread but this kind of put me at least. I have the same noise when decelerating at low speeds in first gear but it doesn't do it at highway speeds at all. Put me at ease...at least for the time being.
