Shifting problems..

ive run a search on this and still havent found a good answer to the problem or what i can do to fix it, my 6-speed shifter has gained some notchyness which isnt really a problem, but my 6th gear feels really hard to push it in and out, it just started i have 18k miles on my car and have also swapped the trans fluid at 15k.. i donno if its the shifter base and cables cuss a few times now its locked me out of all gears because the shifter had an irregular feel (ie wouldnt slide left to right as it should) it doesnt grind gears i just have to wiggle the shiffter till it gets the right neutral left to right pattern again... can anyone help me with this?

try adjusting your clutch. do you have any aftermarket shifter bushings (line or base?)

probably only needs an adjustment. the 6 speed is a notchy trans tho. i changed my fluid to AMSOIL and it was night and day difference. cant go wrong with amsoil fluids

My buddy just had a very similar problem with his wrx and his clutch fork ended up being bent to SH*T, as well as missing a few teeth off the gear. Hopefully not the same problem with yours. I have an 06 MR as well and the 6 speed does tend to be a bit notchy, but if adjusting the clutch doesn't help the matter, try getting some new shift linkage bushings. Cheap, and always a possibility...plus you won't be wasting money. It's $35 that you will never regret spending because it will make your shifts feel so much better.

i had shifter bushings in my car, and hated them at the time. but i never adjusted my clutch so im thinking that was the problem. it was very hard to get into first gear and reverse.

when i get bored one day im gonna go install them again and adjust my clutch and see if that helps the problem

The only way to "fix" bent forks or bad synchros is to tear into the tranny. You may be able to keep babying it along for awhile though if you're careful.

My 6th gear has had this very same problem since I bought the car. Its very hard to go in and hard to go out. Mine has locked out a couple times also but I found that shifting straight from 6th up into 5th then to neutral will keep it from locking out.

I only use 6th on the freeway now. Its an internal problem that will require a tranny rebuild to fix. I'm slowly saving money and just waiting for mine to go so I can either do a TRE rebuild or just swap in a 5 speed.
