transfer case problems

I am doing a clutch install on my 03 evo and everything was going fine till i tried to pull the t-case from the transmission. I've read the evo moto clutch install guide and another one by mitsujoe. Both say that the t-case will just pop off with some prying, but I still can't get it to come off. Are there any tricks on getting the t-case to come off the transmission? and what could be possible problems causing so much headache trying to get the two of them apart...any info would be appreciated.

There are 6 bolts holding the t-case to the transmission. Once all 6 bolts are removed, simply use a screw driver or something to pry the case from the transmission. I had no trouble separating my t-case and transmission.

If all bolts are removed and your prying extremely hard, I'd step back and look at it. Have you already unbolted the motor mounts from the car? Often times, the t-case can get hung up on the oil pan if your trying to lower the trans/engine.

Make sure the t-case isn't hanging up on anything if your prying.

Remove the 6 bolts as said above and make sure you removed the intermediate shaft that runs through the trans and connects the T-case to the driver's side axle.

it should fall apart at this point.

Bingo! I forgot to mention the shaft must be removed prior to separtion. I used a M8 x 1.25 bolt and a dent puller to remove the shaft.

I Wish I would have Read this post this weekend..... I was having a hell of a time with the TC and was getting pissed it wouldn't separate. So I slid it out and noticed the shaft sliding on the Drivers Side. A few pulls with a Slide Hammer and she came out smoothly. Removing the Center Support for the Engine will help remove the TC if you have the Engine supported with a Crane.
