The Power Enterprise fits the bore range of the 4G64 block. I haven't compared their gasket to the EVO IX to confirm compatibility, but I know some have run it with a MIVEC head too.

Another option is to run a bored out OEM gasket with an o-ring machined into the block or head.

I'm running a custom cometic gasket in my setup, if you need one - let me know and I can check for some. Also, I'm running a 2.5L BC kit and it has been up to 8500 without a problem, however the limiter has been bumped back to 7500 as the turbo I have currently is unefficient by the time it starts building boost plus I really don't feel like taking any chances at the moment.

So are you saying that the PE gasket won't require the block to be o-ringed?

The cometic I'm using doesn't require the block to be o-ringed. I have a 4G64 block with an 87mm bore and an Evo 9 head. The headgasket is a cometic IX gasket for an 87mm bore.

Are you using BC's pistons and rods with their crank? What other mods do you have?

Using the BC 102mm crank. I don't think it's BC rods and pistons anymore....I can't remember what was put in when we freshened things up. It was on a BW S366, now it's on a stock 8 turbo which sucks. All other supporting mods..shep trans, fuel, intake, etc.

I spoke to the owner at Lesco and he is very knowledgable. Impeccable detail regarding build process. Using baking soda blaster for cleaning, oil squirters etc. I'll be doing my 2.4 build through lesco as well. Despite the availability of other shops, I like this approach to the 2.4.

I used a special water pump purchased through AMS Performance. They have a modified pump from another Mitsubishi vehicle that they use in their 2.3RR engines. It bolted right up.

LESCO did the machined work for tapping the MIVEC oil feed line and oil squirters. I highly recommend using them for this job since they did this work in their CNC machine. They have a CNC program written to duplicate the factory oil squirters in the 4G64 block...you can see how well mine turned out. I was able to use the factory MIVEC hard line, but opened up theh hard line mounting tab hole to make it line up better.

Other than that...it's an easy swap.

You can read about the short block build here:

i have a 2.4 on the engine stand now, and the 2.4 belt seems too long and the tensioner it bottomed out. but the factory marks are perfect. when i put the Evo 8 belt back on the tensioning is perfect but the cam marks are off.

I was thinking i would use the stock belt and move the HKS cam gears so that the dowels would point to the 12:00 position and lock the pulleys there.

open to suggestions!

Did you already adjust your tensioner pulley with the hydraulic tensioner compressed? Unless your deck has been cut down, the longer belt should fit great.

when i adjusted the pulley so that the belt is tight the tensioner is bottomed out.

but the timing marks are right on. so I put marks on the head above the cam dowels with the 2.4 belt on, then switched back to the HKS evo belt. when I got it set and tensioned I loosened the cam gears and move the dowels to match my cam marks. everything seemed to clear when i rolled it over, so hear goose nothin!

I have discovered that the custom copper gasket that is in the engine is not the same thickness as the MLS gasket that it was patterned after.

this engine so all knows, has a 88.5 bore, the machine ship F**ked up and over bored it way too much and I had custom pistons on the way before I figured out that the thing was out of spec.

Im sure the engine wont last long, but the shop I worked for went out of bussiness and im trying to finish the car for the customer on my own....kinda sucks!

Holy Crap!!! 88.5mm bore!!! What was your piston wall thickness after all that? Maybe you could have sleeved the block and got it back to your original desired bore diameter?
