Oil consumption ?

I installed a catch can about 6 months ago. The other day, I decided I should finally drain it. So I pull the plug and absolutely nothing comes out. I even stuck a qtip in it and it came out completely dry.

Now, my question is, is this a problem? I'm assuming not, but I've read countless posts/threads about oil consumption. I've never had the "normal" oily film in any of my intake piping or turbo. The engine doesn't use a drop of oil and never has. The only reason I even got the catch can was cuz it was a weapon R for $15 on ebay.

I'm just curious since oil consumption seems to be normal. Maybe I'm just lucky.

I have two cans, drain them every oil change/3000 mi., the can running to the air intake never has a drop in it. The can running to the intake manifold catches maybe 1-2 oz.. I figured Im just not under boost often or long enough so it's mostly flowing to the PCV side.

Maybe I'll reroute the can to the pcv and see what I get.

AVO can u tell me where to connect it on the Intake mani? or take a pic? i got one for the air intake that i haven't put it. I am thinking getting another one for the other side. from what i've heard, your not suppose to get any oil from the Intake-valve cover side.

post some pics of what you're talking about. the oil catch can is not suppose to connect to the PCV valve outlet, rather the VC outlet located on the driver's side that originally goes to the turbo intake.

Personally in the year that I've owned the car, I've accrued maybe 5 oz of oil, and I'm running high boost 30psi. Sounds like you didn't connect it properly.

On the back side of the valve cover, you'll see the pcv valve. Route from the valve to the inlet of the can, and the outlet of the can back to intake manifold where the factory line connects.

if your not reving the motor high your also wont cause enough pressure to push the oil into the can.

I made the catch can from a compressor filter you find at Lowes. I also picked up a sleave there that holds the filter and dresses it up a bit. I used one of the mounting brackets used for the throttle wire. the sleave has two screw holes in the back and I used the bracket to mount to one of the VC bolts. That's it.

For $15 you got what you paid for, and yes you will get more oil out of the PCV side. Ideally you should have 2 cans.
