Odyssey PC680 is a total POS (3rd one down)

Before I start talking smack I want to make sure that is it clear that I have nothing against the vendors so please don't take it personal.

I am now in my third big hassle, the third Odyssey I owned completely died while my car was on the lifter waiting for a Shep Racing transmision rebuilt.

This is absolutely unaceptable in todays's modern auto industry in terms of reliability. During the past 3-4 years I used Odysseys on the Evos and now on the DSM (same 4G63 block that I have to crank) but that is not the point, the point is that the PC680 is an unreliable battery.

It has been countless the ocasion in which I had to push my cars in reverse on my car garage ramp just to start the car to go to work, either that or have to jump it with jumper cables. I live in sunny and hot AZ so technically I am not even at the hardcore levels of some of you guys with cold winters..

I could go in details on how many times these batteries let me down on small 10-15 minutes electrical jobs that I had to do: installing gauges, verifying other electrical stuff on the car while the ignition was on, radio install, etc , etc Botton line this battery just can't handle $hit.

I am a very fair guy and before I talk $hit about a product at least I like to tried it first, well, I tried them for 3-4 years and this is my third battery down, they aren't cheap either.

If you care to read my feedback all I can say is buy this battery with a mind set that it "might work OK" if you drive it everyday, don't ask to install a big stereo and definately get a battery tender if you plan to not drive fo a few days.

After all the weight savings are actually insignificant, we are talking miliseconds acceleration wise, the weight reduction advantage is overwhelmed by the reliability issues, botton line my car is down one more time due to the battery issue and the nice ETS custom fabricated intercooler pipes made around my mini battery would have to be one more time custom build to accomodate a newer truly reliable battery since is already proven the PC680 can't do the job!!..

Happy new year!

Carlos

When the car stays parked they drain most times.. You can just charge it back up though if you know the right way to do it.. Of course it wont power big stereos.. most people with large stereos arent looking for weight savings and most people who drag race dont care about maintaining their battery.. just my .02

My 680 has lasted three + years and my car is a garage queen. I'll hook a trickle charger up to it maybe once every winter and thats it. In fact I haven't driven my car for the past month and just started it up yesterday and drove it around. Started up fine.

I have a nice Sears charger and often top it up. I know the tender would have taken care of it but I think you should have to do that. I owned many beater cars with old batteries that stay charged for weeks without a problem.

On a different note I am glad your is working well . I am definately staying away from the mini batteries for a while.

but when you say 3rd one down.. A dead battery is not the end of the world.. Why not just charge it up?? why are you on the 3rd one??

I hope you go OK with yours. I don't want to scare you or anything, everyone knows they are weak, you can get around by having a battery tender(I guess).
Don't get me wrong, I had IC pipes on my Evos and on my DSM, they do the funtion well(weight savings and shorter path) but the battery is weak by nature. Do search and you will find many other people that had the same issues.

i am using the batt and havent had any issues thus far for about 2 weeks. my other Evo buddy has used one for 3 years w/o issues. These batteries HATE heat...that could be your problem living in AZ....they recommend heat wrapping the battery....my 2 cents.

what car are u using it in?

I have been using a BMW motorcycle for a few months now even in the cold Pa winters. I just purchased a Jetta as a beater and whenever I know my car is going to be sitting for an extended period of time I just unhook the negative. Only time this battery failed to start my car was when it was on the alignment rack with the break pedal depressor on it for 3 hours.

Thanks for your suggestions Mike, we tried charging it but it is dead. My car is ready but now I have the dilema of finding a battery that would fit my new ETS custom intercooler and piping. I had ETS building my IC pipes based on the location an size of the battery, now a mini battery is not an option anymore.

If you were in my shoes you would understand, I now prefer something that you can get into the car and after being parked for a few weeks it cranks right up (just about any oem battery out there).

Maybe that is the case (heat), definetaly the battery had more exposure to heat than anything else. The few times I took my car to the same shop for a longer period (IAperformance) I had battery issues.
