How bad of a sign is this?

That black plastic cover bolted on the engine is cracked from the lower right bolt through half of the plastic cover...
Anyone know what this means/what caused it?

The car's got 33k miles, tuned with a lot of bolt ons..
Was the bolt overtightened? Too much power? etc etc? I think it was causing a buzzing noise also.. help!
The last person to physically touch the engine was AMS, tuned to about 370whp, full bolt ons, etc... What caused it??

I'll post pics later when I get a chance

:EDIT: Here are the pictures! What is the cause??

Are you talking about your coil/spark plug cover on top of the engine? If that is cracked its due to over tightening one of the bolts. It won't hurt anything. You can just take it off the car if the crack bothers you.

From what I got out of it I think you are talking about the cam gear cover. I am not sure how else that would crack besides one of the bolts being overtightened particularly the lower right bolt since you said thats where the crack started. If you are making 370whp then I am assuming you have cams which would mean that the plastic cover was removed at some time. Just my .02

The problem is caused by the material the part is made of - plastic.

Buy a new one or leave it off. It is just for looks.

that's what i was thinking..
it's not because it was overtightened or anything?
Initially I freaked out but then I looked closer and I was like wait this is just like an outside cover piece

also, do you think it could be the cause of this buzzing i've developed recently? it's been getting louder too, and it only happens between 2-3k rpms

I'm sure it cracked because it was over tightened, there's really no other way it could happen. My g/f bought me an AMS one for my b-day so if you want my stock one you're more than welcome to it., or you can just remove it all together.

This is Afrin, incase you didn't know

Yeah, I don't think it's something to worry about. It's nothing that will affect the performance of the car or the engine. Sometimes plastics tend to crack, especially if the plastic is covering such an aggressive engine as what the Evo has.
