How do u shift when ur daily driving ur evo?

so my DD is the IX (don't have a choice but to do that!) and i noticed that sometimes, depepdning on how u physicaly move the shifter, the gears would feel differently, for examply, if I push the shifter from 2nd to 3rd gear with a slight downforce, i would sometimes feel a metal engagment, but if i shift it with almost a pull motion from 2nd toward 3rd with an upward force, it would feel very smooth. I usualy shift around 2300-3500 rpm, so not much beating on the car. So it would be nice to hear what u guys think and if anyone has noticed any similiar effects.
cheers!

well when its cold, i think most of us agree that evo trannies in general are sort of notchy. and in fact the mitsu dealer just worked on my tranny and changed 3rd and 5ft gears and synchros ( u gott aluv the warranty) but even tho when its nice and warm, i sometimes feel that lil metal coupling.

are u notcing the same results form the way of shifting as i described above?

mine is the same way... i shift all different ways depending on my "mood" of driving, usually kinda lift up though and its a very smooth transition, but sometimes i dont give it that little upwards actiona nd it goes in easy but feels a lil rough still

Yea mine is my DD too and it felt the same way too. After I put in the Blox roll stopper it was much smoother shifting unless it is cold.

I use the Blox front motor mount and shifter bushings and I also drained the tranny and used AMSoil. Now it shifts like butter. Shifting seems to feel like its moving through a tub of room temp butter. I would suggest getting underhood shifter bushings (got mine from AMS) and the blox front engine mount (got from the sale they had on EVOM). the AMSoil...contact Apagan01 or Vmrevo9 and they can hook you up.

Below is a link to it. It limites the front and back roll of your engine.
SpeedElement is a memeber and can hook you up with one if you want. Just search for it on the forum you will find him.

I also got the Shifter Bushings to help.

I am in the same boat

drive it normal shifting around 3k rpms and you get that minor crunch of metal sound.

Drive it a little aggressive shifting around 3800-4000 rpms she goes in smooth

front motor mount helped mine out a lot. still get that metal notchy feeling especially when its cold. evo trans hates being cold i think we can all agree on that.

Cgroovy & Bora,
Thanks alot for ur refferals and comments.

I did change my underhood bushings, i got mine from Buscher, the lil aluminium looking circular bushings that go onto the shifter cables. didn;t notice much differnt but according to others they have.

Alex,
I am the same way to, when i am in higher rpm, it shifts smoother too.

ya when its cold i understand if its a lil notchy, but when its warm, and having brand new gears, why does it still do that? i hate it! its a bueatiful car, why did mitsu haven;t spend more resources in engineering this tranny to perfection.
