Use 10W-30. FWIW I've run 0W-20 for 40,000 miles 1/2 that at 400hp. I live in South Florida,(like you) and also have run HPDEs with the same oil. There is a lot of info on oil in this forum, search around a little more, you'll find what your looking for.

Ya i dunno about 15w50... That seems really thick stuff especially for a stock motor.

I live in a cold climate so I run 5w30 in the winter and 10w30 in the summer.

i can testify that we have plenty customers EVOix and EVOx that prefer to run 20w50, yes you heard 20w50.

TAKE SOME TIME TO DO SOME RESEARCH ON OIL LIKE THO ONE IN THIS PIC, THEY CARRY A PACKAGE OF ZINC AND PHOSFORUS THIS SO THE METAL TO METAL CONTACT IS MINIMIZED.

however they drive their cars hard, here is a good theory turbo cars get very hot the oil passing thrue the turbo gets coocked, however because of the higher viscocity the oil pump has to work harder stealing a little power but over 400WHP 2-4 WHP it aint nothing

most of these guys running 20w50 run over 500WHP anyways.

ask any engine builder they will tell you thicker oils.

ths can be a very informative thread we can bring in some big dogs in here that can testify

If it were up to automotive engineers we'd all still be running straight weight oil. The more viscosity indexers that are added to oil to obtain an extended range the less the lubrication. That is why the service manual for my 8 has the strange recommendation of 20W-40 oil for hot weather, a product that is impossible to find in any local market, instead of the common 10W-40 oil.

I just made the switch to mobil 20-50 and recently ran it on the track in a TT event. All I can say is that I really didn't notice a drop in power. But it was highly recommended by all the track guru guys for me to run the thicker oil.

Hey guys, great thread actually I have a problem regarding the oil, you can see it here https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...1000miles.html

I live in the middle east Kuwait, and the temprutures here reach around 122F in summer, and at night 110F. am running Mobile 0W40, and it seems to get burn really fast since the summer started here.

I checked the car, and I can't seem to find any problem with it no blue smoke and no oil leak what so ever, some people told me to change to a much heavier oil, so I want your input on this please am trying to find a good oil that can stand this heat in my country.

ooh I forgot to mention that my car has all bolt ons plus cams and HTA35R, and since I installed the HTA35R I've had this problem.

Local tuner recommend 20w50 for my stock motor, I ended up grabbing some 15w50 Mobil 1.

I see alot of mixed opinions about it, since this is a older thread.

How are your engines holding up with 20w50 or 15w50

Amsoil 5w50 for street, and Amsoil 15w50 for track in my car. Runs great, oil analysis has come back great the few times I did it.

HOWEVER, on a stock turbo car, I don't see a need for thicker than the recommended 10w30.

It's not just my tuner, there's several on here that recommend 20w-50

From what I've gathered the higher viscosity is supposedly better for the oil pump and oil pressures, especially for high rpm loads not exactly for which turbo you have.

My tuner also suggested 20w50. It's my understanding its better for the bearings especially if you race. If you just drive the car daily 10w40 should be just fine. Here is a service bulletin from FP that is some years old now.

https://www.forcedperformance.net/me...otor%20Oil.pdf

"Race engines that operate with oil temps above 200F should run 20w-50 weight racing oil. GF-4 classification oil is NOT racing oil, GF-4 is emissions priority oil that basically has all of the high pressure additives removed from it to avoid damaging catalytic converters and reduce tailpipe emissions. I know that your filler cap on your motor says use Mobil 1 5w-30 – you may remove the sticker at this time and stop believing that what was good for your 270bhp motor is still good for your 650bhp motor, it is not."

Sited from the exerpt.

That is for FP's proprietary design stock frame journal bearing turbos. The OEM engine and turbo is designed to run regular oil. No moving parts in the 4g63 require high pressure additives. It has roller cams, the same journal bearing crankshaft every other engine has, and the turbo is designed to run regular oil. OP is not making 650bhp. He has a stock car with bolt ons. No need for anything more than a good 10w30.
