850R is not an FP turbo, just so you know.

But thanks for the vendor bash. I'm sure Robert appreciates it.

Shark,

Have you considered talking to CBRD? Chad seems to know a thing or two about having Blouch do custom turbos for particular applications. Throw him a PM, he might have an idea or two to throw into the mix. He may very well be able to splice together a good turbo made to the specs you need. If anything, the guy loves to talk turbos even with people who might not buy anything from him

Turbos are designed to operate within a certain RPM window. You overspeed when you go too far to the right on the map, you surge it going to far to the left.

42-44psi on a 62mm turbo makes somewhat over 720 wheel hp, and 599ft lb torque on c16 on this car.

Here is the part that you guys are not understanding, this is not a 1/4 mile car. 44psi down the 1/4 mile is fine, it will take that all day.

The owner is going on the highway, with c16, 44psi, going up to 150MPH, then he hits it full blast from there and doesn't stop until the speedo is pointing vertically down to the ground. A 996 Porshe was trailing him the last time, and the porsche was at 185 MPH, and he was pulling away 20 cars infront of the Porsche.

Some of you guys won't get it (I didn't understand how he was doing this till he sat down and explained to me what he did in detail). This is what is happening, turbo is overspeeding for too long and it hits the housing, then the little pieces off the edge get sucked in. He needs a bigger turbo for that type of use, it cannot tolerate that type of use, IMHO.

Now for you 1/4 mile guys that just hold it for 10 sec carry on, this will not happen, the turbo will hold up fine for that, I don't have any other customers with this issue.

Last time I pulled the filter off myself I saw what the turbo looked like the only thing it has injested are edges of the blades.

Not an AMS issue, not a tuning issue, simply a design and intended usage issue.

They last for a while like this, then one day it fails during a run.

Sean
Thank you for posting this Sean. This is the reason why these turbo's keep going on him. He is taking this past 7500 RPM in 5th gear for an extended period of time. Talk about LOAD and HEAT...

He is overworking the turbo plain and simple. I don't know of many T3 turbos that can take what Steve is throwing at it.

Hell That's exactly how I drive!!!!!!!! I'm planning on going with the 6765 how do you guy's think that new turbo will hold up?

I've taken mine up to 183mph for a bit but it got too scarry to hold it there on the highway!! I normally boost around 120-140mph, I also frequently do 160mph runs for extended periods of time.

I try not to keep it at 7K rpm for too long, I'm terrified I'm going blow something up.

the 42 leaves a bit to be desired imho. if you went that route the bw 71 makes a bit more sense, but word on the street is that garrett may be releasing a new 42R next year to battle the bw airwerks

why not change the header? he could have power down low and serious power up top with the larger frame t4

why not? i think if this setup had a 4088R maxed out it would do as much or more power than the 850R

No offense Geoff but you are 1 of the very few that likes the 4088 / 4094.. IMO those turbos are the biggest pigs on mitsus.. I have raped more t4 turbo cars with a 67p trim and 6262 then you could count.. all on powerband..

I know youll probably get up tight over this but just tell me what FAST EVO on boost alone can you name that runs those 2 turbos?? I can name 15+ than ran 9's on smaller t3's.. leave those 4088's and 94's for Hondas and Vr6's.. They dont work well on Mitsus from my 1st hand experience..
