My 2.3 Build!

Hey guys,

So my built is officially on the move! I'm going to use this thread to ask any questions I may have along the way...

So here's the progress so far. I Just bought a AMS 2.3 stroker off a member here on the boards for a good price. It comes complete with the 100mm crank, ross ceramic coated deep dish pistons, aluminum oliver rods, and a few other odds and ends. It looks beautiful. It was built with the intentions of 1000whp, but my goal is much lower!

Here is my goal for this build. Build a nice reliable 2.3 that makes ~600+awhp on 93 octane all day long. I am going to attemp to keep the stock 6 speed tranny until it gives out on me. It has lasted almost 100k miles with no grinding, nochiness, or anything .

This is the setup:
AMS 2.3
BR Stage 3 head
ETS 6262 single scroll kit
Exedy twin
Stock 6 speed
1200cc injectors
BR double pumper

I searched to find some answers to my questions, but it seems peoples opinions are very different and I didnt really attain all that much information from them... So, I'll hope that I get some better answers here.

1.) Can I used the stock coilpacks or should I upgrade to a ignition system like spark tech? I have heard that gapping the plus to something like 29 will make the stock packs work to 700awhp, but is that reliable or safe?

2.) Will a BR double pumper & 1200cc injectors be enough to fuel this thing? Should I consider a fuel rail?

Im in the process of strocking mine too,

The fuel system I chose to go with is an Aeromotive A1000 fuel pump, -8AN fuel supply line Aeroquip fuelrail, -6AN return line, Aeromotive FPR and a 8gal fuel cell

Im going with the sparktech COP set up.

I used the stroke or not to stroke sticky to answer alo of my questions it's 60 pages long but, it is well worth the time spent reading it.

Thats a bit excessive I think. DB has all stock lines on his 9sec RS, and I plan to mimic this as close as possible. I just wanna know when the stock rail becomes insufficent...

I was just reading about intake manifolds... I was planning on getting a ported one, but it doesnt even look like I need too Some guy from another forum tested a bunch of aftermarkets and pretty much proved that the stock one does ok compared to aftermarket...

Well the way I see it is when I hit my planned tartget power a few months after that I'll want more just like everyone else so I just decided to spend the money once and be done with it.

1) with an ignition amplifier like the HKS DLi box the rest of the stock ignition has been used to over 500 whp. For your goals I would recommend a COP setup. That would reduce the possibility of spark blowout.

2)The stock fuel rail is good to over 600whp on Buschur's dyno, you don't need it unless you want to go over that. Double pumper with the 1200cc injectors would not be a bad idea. As long as you don't over run the fuel pressure regulator it's always better to have more fuel than less.

Just my .02

Josh
