New gasket or rethread the block?
I've had this damn oil leak ever since I took my car to Evolution Racing(shop in my town, the owner is actually the guy getting his car built by AMS). I went back to try to get them to fix and they wanted $250 lol. The oil leak is right between the oil filter housing and my oil pump casing. So I decided that when I installed my camshafts that I would take a look and see what exactly is going on down there. Here are some pics of the problems down there.


When evolution was doing my timing belt they stripped the part that the bolt threads into so now it just sits in there not even tight. So I start doing the timing belt and take off all the pulleys and seperate the oil filter housing from the oil pump casing. First I notice that the gasket is broken so I was like ok well thats probably causing the leak so Ill go buy a new one...but the damn dealership only has them special order so I wont get it til monday. Also I look inside the part where that bolt threads into and it is stripped to hell.
I was not sure what to do because the car is my daily and I need it to get around plus its in the middle of a damn build and I cant be tuning my car when Im leaking oil all over the place so I tried some Black RTV silicone for oil. I had previously used this on my oil return line from the turbo so I decided I would give it a try.
The first time I did it I left the gasket on because even though it was broken it was a rather small piece. I start the car look under the car, I see no leaks so I go take it for a spin, come back and look under....its leaking. So I take the car apart again and take off the whole gasket this time and decide to only try running the RTV. So I start the car check for leaks and all is good. Take it for a spin come back and look under...its leaking. So I take the car apart again for the third time buy some really expensive oil gasket maker for 15 dollars put it on and start the car and do the same thing. I take it for a cruise and come back. I look under the car and to my surprise no leaks. So I was super excited and I was so glad I could take it to school tomorrow. So on the way back from school I get home look under the car again to make sure and you can probably guess it was ****ing leaking again.
I already have the new gasket ordered from the dealership so I will have it by monday but im not entirely sure that even a new gasket will fix it. My guess is that without being able to tighten down that one bolt the oil filter housing is not sitting flush enough to keep the oil from leaking. I really have no clue what to do from here. Im really hoping that this new gasket will fix it but Im kind of doubtful. The bolt threads into the block so its not something I can just go replace. Someone told me to get it rethreaded but that sounds expensive and time consuming.
Im really frustrated with this damn leak and I just want it to go away. Sorry guys I had to vent lol.

Since no one else is answering I'd suggest it needs Helicoiled. I'm not sure if you can do that at that location without getting shavings into the oil. Maybe the front cover needs to come off. Someone should know.

dude you really need to have them fix it this is a perfect example as to why some places with just hire anyone to work on a car.. ah how tight to i have to tighten a oil filter housing bolt uhhhh. dude take it back and tell them what happened but now since you messed with it they can prolly deny it. you may just have to have the car down and fix it on the weekend or somthing, or just take it to another shop that knows what they are doing. good luck bro

I dont really need them to fix it and I took it back to them already before I messed with it and they wanted 250 to fix it. So I'd rather fix it, its pretty easy to get to that location but I just wanted to know if you guys thought the new gasket would work or if i need to rethread the block
I'm thinking that bolt goes through the oil filter housing, through the pump, and into the block, no?
If so to do it right the pump and pan are going to have to come off. At that point, please don't take this offensively, it sounds as though you really should take it somewhere. It is a tedious task that needs to be done properly to make it right and problem-free.

Not hard to do if you know what your doing. Highly recommend doing it on a lift and not on the ground tho. When drilling out a broken bolt and re-tapping it. You want to make sure your doing it straight. Especially when drilling in the block. It looks to me as if you have to re-thread it. The oil filter housing has to come off and preferably the oil pan (to make sure no metal shavings are left in lower block).
dude, tell them you are going to get a lawyer if they don't fix it. A lawyer should cost you $150 to retain them. That will get them to call the shop or write a letter saying that they have been hired as your lawyer with regards to such and such. I highly doubt that the shop in question will not just go ahead and fix it for you at that point. Good luck.
