Are the evo 9 stock headstuds safe to 30 psi used with an fp red?

Stock head studs will hold, BUT with any large amounts of detonation, WILL lift the head eventually.

what about all the people that claim to be leaking oil from doing the 1X1 method?

you dont need headstuds at all, like the previous guys said alot of guys do them, but the best way to do it is to pull the head, i got 120K miles on my evo with stock headstuds comp cams evo green pushing a lil over 400hp and i had no issue, with a good tune no knocking your good i run 26 psi daily

I think it's comical for someone to say they lifted there head at 23 psi with minor mods I mean seriously... you really think your crappy little torque figure is gonna stress the 4g63? Get the hell outta here! Something else was obviously wrong! Evo head gaskets don't get comprimised by such little power.

I ran 26 psi on a bone stock Evo 6 engine for about 4 years constant harrasment. Never burned a drop of oil or had a head gasket engine. Presumably the Evo 9 engine is a bit more stout too!

Damn you got a 1G and didn't get the 6 Bolt? Man that's a big reason to get one is the strength of the 6 Bolt motor.

I bought the car in '97, long before I knew the difference. Didn't stop me from going 11s on it with basic mods. A friend's 7 bolt 93 has also gone 11.02 @ 126 on a 20g. The 6 bolts will handle 600+whp on stock internals and the 7 bolts will easily do 450-500whp+ safely, much like an EVO 7 bolt can. Personally, for the power goals I've had, I'd prefer the updated design of the 7 bolt, not to mention the lighter rods. Bigger isn't always better.

There are a few threads on DSM forums about guys actually going back to stock bolts after lifting the head with ARPs. Nobody I know with a DSM will waste their money on regular ARPs anymore, they go straight to the L19s when they're at the point that they need more than stock bolts will handle. I suspect you'll start to see this trend more and more here.

I would say upgrade to be safe and not risk damage but Many have run 30lbs on stock headstuds and claim no problems so

Ask any automotive technician about a "1x1" method and have him look at you like youre a retard.

Now when doing a headstud install properly (removing the head), I'm assuming a fresh gasket must be in order as well. Correct?

I always say if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Obviously as long as its not blown, replacing the head gasket is not necessary, but people to it to make them selves feel better. In my automotive technician years I've never seen a good one that was reused cause any problems. Again I think its another one of those, is knowing you have a new head gasket in there worth 80 bucks to you?

many shops do the 1 x 1. also many shops wont do it that way either. IMO if its done right there is no issue. myself have done many 1 x 1 installs. yet to have an issue.

IMO again if you have an issue doing the 1 X 1 then you did it wrong or half assed it. if you claim to do it right and have an issue then clearly you did not do it right.

Has anyone in this thread actually had their head lift from using the 1x1 method ? Or are you basing you're opinion on something you heard or read ?

That being said, I have been doing the 1x1 method for the last 11 years or so, and never had a head lift on me because of it. On another note, i am running 30psi right now on stock evo 8 head bolts.

Good luck

the only problem is have really heard of with the 1 X 1 method is the engine leaking oil because the head gaskets seal was broken...
