Are the evo 9 stock headstuds safe to 30 psi used with an fp red?

Here is an example of what could possibly happen if you install the headstuds 1x1.
the oil leaks into the cylinders and out onto the block.

The 7 bolts we're just 1mm smaller and torque to yield compared to the 6 bolt studs. That is all.

amazing. no oil on gasket in top right corner (only place there is oil pressure)
oil all over the gasket like that is impossible from taking a stud out. you win stupid post of the week.

That's my block. Here's what I know.

1. Installed ARP's 1x1. Did it correctly.

2. My head leaked oil down the back of the block for years. And as you can see in the picture into the cylinder as well. I ran track days with the leaky head and never had a problem.

3. Have a list of friends who installed ARP's 1x1, many of whom are master mechanics and did the install correctly. All of theirs developed the leak. What's important is that it wasn't the same person doing the install. There were at least 6 of us, back in '03-'04 who did it. Everyone was a skilled wrencher and knew what they were doing - ALL got the leak.

4. If you haven't had the headstuds in over a year you won't find the leak as it's so small.

5. If you don't get under your car and carefully look at the back of the block you would never know you had a leak.

6. Mine never dripped oil on the ground as the oil would collect dirt on the block and create a dirty gunk. So you can't simply look for oil spots.

7. There are lots of people out there that think their ARP's didn't create a leak - but they haven't looked at the right time or way....

I have a fpred and have run it since november I have been running meth and 28-32 psi for about a year. I have s1 cams. I have the stock studs and have not lifted a head. I do not burn oil. I have 70000mi on the car and daily drive it and go drag racing on the weekends. I have had no problems with the stock studs. Kevin D my tuner runs 32psi with a 35R and stock studs. With a good tune you will not have problems.

So in reality it comes down to do you want to pull the head or not?

I ran my car at 32psi+ on the stockers and had no issues, with the level of power you will be seeing more than likely the only possible cause of the head "lifting" would be do to a bad tune causing detonation.

So in short. Stick with the stock studs unless you want to pull the head. Spend the money to get a professional tune and enjoy your car.

I have ran 30+psi for over 40,000miles on my IX with a very good tune from DBPerformance. I ran E85 for those 40K+ miles. I have never logged knock in the upper RPMs only occasionaly on spoolup. 377hp/377tq uncorrected on a Dyno Dynamics. Engine has stock head bolts, never been touched. Plan on going to a read and will stick with the stock head bolts. If I push coolant I will have the head inspected, cleaned up, and install L19s.

I don't do the 1x1 method, that was something we used to do 8 years ago with DSMs and it was hit or miss.

Far too many reports of people running good power on the stock studs to believe you need head studs. Heck if I just had one person say they ran 30 psi and E-85 I'd be happy but we got a lot of reports here of it.

vboy are all your headstuds done 1x1 method? I'm having trouble understanding how or why 1x1 would be a problem.

30 psi or so on a 8,9 turbo, and bout 26-28 psi on the green aint enough pressure to lift the stock headbolts unless your knocking all over the place....but ones you get a red or a bigger turbo (ex. 30r,35r) than u will need headstuds no questtions asked......

Ahh this thread is killing me, Im in the position to where im not sure if i need headstuds or not and by the looks of this thread i should be safe. I have a red on order with some kelford 272's. The car has all other full bultons. I was quoted 700 for labor on pulling the head to do the head studs. I only plan on running about 25-26 psi though. I know people are going to give me crap for this but i am on a stock motor which is my daily driver and i wont risk pushing anything past 450. With my mods im hoping to be around this area and i have no real desire to be running any more than 26 psi until the motor is built. The 1x1 method is out of the question for me regardless of other peoples success with it, i would just be in a constant state of panick that somthing wasnt right if i did this.
