Are the evo 9 stock headstuds safe to 30 psi used with an fp red?

do a search, plenty of reputable shops do the 1x1 method. if youre still not sure about it just get yourself a headgasket and replace that aswell

I have a dollar for anyone who can prove they lifted a head with 30psi or under.
I just hit 91000 mi today and still have the stock studs in. I have touched 37psi with my red on accident. I let off the gas as fast as I could when I saw the gauge go past 30. It sounded like a huricane under my hood and my ebc said 37...crap...
Any way all was well. I have had no issues running the stock studs. That incident happened a while ago as well. I will upgrade when I have my engine built.

Stock headstuds on my IX have been awesome. 14,000 miles of FP red and 31-34psi daily, I never turn it down. Before that 47,000 miles of 30psi on stock IX turbo and E85. This car makes over 500hp on a dynojet. Runs 11.1 at 127mph bouncing off 8500 limiter in fourth.

Original headgasket and headbolts so far, now car has 66,000 miles on it. You only get that awesome factory fresh seal once, avoid 1x1 and basic ARPs not worth the money. L19s or stick with stock headstuds on the original headgasket. If it blows or you upgrade your head then go right to the L19s and never look back.

labor + parts + tax

550 (labor)+
100 (gasket)
110 (studs)

760 + tax....adds up pretty quick

that all being said, I made lots of power on stock headstuds. The people that need headstuds now are most likely the ones that had a craptastic tune on the car and rattled the pistons/lifted the head. That is far worse on a headgasket than doing the 1x1 method. However the proper way is to pull the head off, make sure its flat, reinstall.

If you want to change them thats good, but its not necessary.

I have seen people change to arp the wrong way 1x1 method and blow their headgasket..

Its all about the tune, its all about doing it right.

If you do 1x1 method and blow the headgasket, your going to tear the head down anyways,

so if you have a sucky tune and lots of detonation then you blow the headgasket at that time do the headstuds the right way.. Pull the head

Thats why people called "supporting mods". It's not safe to run stock headstuds on Fp red at 30 psi. Arp headstuds stronger and can handle the power. At same time when you get the headstuds installed, install a new head gasket too . Do everything one time. Same time, labor and money.
