for a DD type setup no. not at all. your asking for some trouble. head studs are less then 100 bucks get them and put them in. then run 30psi. if your going red dont cheep out of the important parts

Some owners have 450whp evos with stock headstuds and gasket, but personally I would purchase headstuds and a cosworth headgasket for peace of mind. Trust that your motor can handle 30psi and a red.

They arent that expensive either. just spend the money.

why hope when you could get piece of mind.

less than $100 (piece of mind) > $$$$ broke motor (hoping it's safe)

you decide.

$100 for the studs, then add in the cost of the Headgasket and valve cover gasket. Labor to remove the head to install the gasket and studs... its WAY more than a simple 100 bucks and labor intensive. (and no i would never do the 1x1 method) To each his own i suppose... i will eventually do it, but when its needed to remove the head. (eg. i blow the gasket or i get the head/manifolds ported w/ new timing belt etc)

850R 25-30psi stock heads studs = good to go..

if you want to change them thats good, but its not necessary.

I have seen people change to arp the wrong way 1x1 method and blow their headgasket..

its all about the tune, its all about doing it right.

if you do 1x1 method and blow the headgasket, your going to tear the head down anyways,

so if you have a sucky tune and lots of detonation then you blow the headgasket at that time do the headstuds the right way.. PULL THE HEAD

I'm sorry for the off topic. What is the 1x1 method?

Back to the topic. I'd get the headstuds and a new gasket. Rather spend a few hundred bucks then a couple grand to rebuild the motor.

If you have another daily driver and the Evo is just a toy to you, go head and run 30psi and see what happends....lol. Then come back and tell us if everything is good.

headstuds won't save ur motor and you probably wouldn't ruin the motor if you kept stock head studs, well unless you continued to drive it..

1x1 method is doing headstud one by one without pulling the head off the car..

Your kind of gambling either way. If you pick the 1x1 method your at risk for possible failure and if you just throw 30psi at the stock bolts you could have possible failure. There is a poll somewhere on here that showed the success and failures of the 1x1 method. If i recall alot of people had some sort of issue down the road with the 1x1 method. I am personnaly going to run a red on 25-27 psi with the stock bolts and if i have issues with the head lifting i am going to pull the head and replace the bolts with studs. I was quoted 600 in labor to pull the head and install the arp's. $100 for arp's + (50-100) for headgasket + (100-150) for timing belt + (600-800) Labor and any other miscelanious parts you may need = 850-1150 all together which is a pretty decent amount of money. If FastAzzEvo is running an 850R with 25-30 psi that should be a perfect example of what the stock bolts can handle. There are plenty of people running the stock bolts and untill i see some information on them lifting their heads my opinions will remain the same. In my opinion if you are going to install the studs do it right the first time. I would personally feel that somthing would go wrong down the line if i did the 1x1 method, but this is just my opinion. Good luck with your choice.

Why would you ever do the 1x1. You can pull the head off in like 30 min...get studs.
