Do all of you reporting this ticking problem have a conical air filter as well?

Hmm, could be detonation. People who don't know what it sounds like just think the car is "ticking."

I don't think so, because detonation is more of a pinging-type sound, plus installing an EBC or MBC and leaving it at the stock boost level of 19 psi won't in and of itself cause detonation. What they're reporting I bet more sounds like something tapping, clicking, or vibrating only from about 2800 - 3500 RPM. Almost like something were loose in the engine bay. I would say it's the solenoid. An easy way to find out; try some 100-octane fuel and see if you still hear it.

Oh yeah, definitely if the boost is set to stock levels and there's no piggyback/reflash, etc then I'm positive its not pinging. Mitsu's A/F tuning will drown any of that out It was just a FYI/warning to all those out there that pinging does sound like "ticking" to those that aren't accoustomed to the sound. I would agree though, that once you know the sound well enough to pick out a light ping w/ the radio on (don't ask ) that it doesn't sound like a tick at all :P

It is normal for the solenoid to click. Thats why they recommend not mounting the solenoid on the firewall. Move the solenoid to the top of the wheel well or away from the firewall and you will be okay.

I feel so much better now! I have an XEDE and I recently installed a TBE on my car. Sense then when I go WOT and get above 4500RPM and 10PSI I hear a ticking sound (very rapid, almost a buzz). Initially I was afraid that it was some predetenation, but after going to a less agressive map I still get the ticking.

Tonight I will wrap the XEDE's soleniod in something heat resistant and sound deadening and see if that cures it.

Unplug the stock solenoid. I had the same thing and fixed it by unplugging the stock solenoid. Thats all it is. Unplug the damned thing and toss it (Or keep it if you plan on going back to stock lol). Exactly at 0psi is when it will click extremely quickly (Like a clock ticking but much faster) about 5 times or so. Just unplug it and you will be fine. It is annoying which is why I tossed it.

Trinababe, and all,

Does your service light stay on when you take the old solenid out. I had to put mine back in to get the service light to stay off. Maybe theres a fuse for the stock turbo line. Maybe that could be taken out. I have my new solenid mounded on the front side of the fender and I can really hear it all the way through boost.??
