Power steering fluid for the EVO???

Hey guys I have a track day coming up next weekend and need to change my power steering pump. I know the book calls for 1.1 qt Mitsubishi Power Steering Fluid, and a friend of mine said he had a bottle of it. Didn't realize a bottle is only 12 oz and not a quart. So I'm in need of more before the weekend. No local dealers or even remotely close. Is there a generic that is the same as the Mitsu stuff?

At any auto parts stores, they always tell us factory only. My buddy used some autozone crap, and said his pump started whining real bad.

There's no Mitsu dealership anywhere near me. So, one day I was in Fort Collins, Colorado, and there, on the corner, was a Mitsu dealership. After looking over the then new X I went into the parts department and asked for the special Mitsu power steering fluid. I didn't notice until I got home that what I was sold was a quart of Mitsu automatic transmission fluid? Are the two the same?

Good info! I didn't know it was all the same stuff, I guess you don't have to drive all the way to the dealer.

Does anyone else understand what he's trying to say? Completely contradicting statements in this responce.

Or is he saying the auto part store tell him only to use factory fluids?

What's the problem buddy? Do you have a hard time comprehending a sentence? Let me see if I can further translate english to english.

Here's what I said:

That means :

At any auto parts store (advanced, autozone, oreilly's, etc.), the employees that work there usually tell us (when they look up 03 evo in the computer) that the suggested fluid is OEM only- and that they do not carry a fluid acceptable for it.

My buddy (one of my friends) used fluid from autozone, and then he said to me, "my power steering pump is whining real bad. I think it's that autozone fluid."

I hope that helps.

As I wrote above, when I went to Mitsu seeking power steering fluid, they sold me ATF. There is also power steering fluid that is hydraulic fluid. The two are not the same. From this post, what l still don't know is which he ended up with.
