Going for a tune...Do I need headstuds?

Hey guys...I'm going to be getting tuned on Saturday, and I've recently made the decision to run methanol. Car has stock turbo with your basic boltons with s1 cams, and meth. I am definately doing headstuds, but just don't have the time before my tune. I wanted to know if I could possibly get away with not using them just for the tune, and then throw some on in the next week or so. The car will probly be tuned for 26psi or so. Will I be safe for the time being?? Thanks

What problems exactly are your head bolts currently exhibiting?

No problems at all...car is strong running. I just know a lot of people that change them out to ARP when running high boost... Maybe it's just for cheap insurance

I'm in the same boat as you bro, headstuds shouldn't be that difficult to install right?

From what I've read they aren't hard at all...but that's if you keep the head on the car and just remove the valve cover. Pulling the head off of the car is a different story. Still probably wouldn't be super hard, but just a lot more work and aggravation for $100 dollar headstuds. If it prevents the motor from grenading though, I guess it's worth it... I have heard mixed responses from people who install them both ways. A lot of people can get away with keeping the head on the car, while others have problems down the road...so I guess it's a chance you take...

since chris at efi is an amazing tuner im sure itll be safe to drive without studs for a while.

Thanks Mike...I'll let you know how everthing goes, and let me know once you get them because I can help with the install. I'm getting more and more excited every day. You going to be around at EFI on the 4th?? I'll have to take you for a ride once it's tuned

Anytime you take anything apart on an engine and there's a gasket involved you always change the gasket...atleast you do if you want to do it right. Espically a headgasket where its a royal PITA to do the whole job then have to do it all over again because you tried to cheap out and reuse a gasket. Do it right and do it once.

I noticed your in CT... where are you going to get tuned sat? I'm going to ECS this friday the 3rd to get tuned which is in Windsor Locks, may be only missing you by a day.

If you're doing headstuds, do it right. It's been discussed here a million times. Take the head off, put a new head gasket and put them in. There's rare cars that were done without taking the head off and don't run in to problems. (Leaking stuff after a while etc).

If you're doing it for your motors insurance, do it right.

I'm actually getting tuned at EFI logics in Bethel. Another forum I'm on is having a tune weekend there with awesome prices. I got the spot early, but he's booked now. I know where ECS is...their new location in windsor locks is 5 mins from my house. What time you getting tuned?? I'll swing by if I have some time.
