Question T-case

I just got a Shephard Stage 3 transercase. I sent it in because of the excessive whine. Got it put in the other night and the whine is still there. Is there anything else that it could be other than the transfercase?!?!?!? I have solid motor mounts all around, would that have anything to do with it?!?

Heard that if the whine goes away when you put clutch in, then it your throw out bearing. Mine has this problem. It's not the whine I hear about, but it's a whine, and it's noticeable if I'm crawling at 15mph or so but goes way once I hit 35+/turn the radio back on.

it could be your tranny...what gears does it whine in? If it is only in the lower gears, primarily 1st and 2nd then it could just be normal tranny whine. The 5 spd tranny in the evo IX's are known to whine a little in the lower gears, perhaps it's the same with the viii

remember brother, any car running a TC system will whine, reason being is it uses a ring and gear system them both meshing together will sound like that,,,, the key factor is you dont want the whine to be loud up top, or to get louder as you accelerate, its ok if it whines in lower gears taking off, but not in higher gears.

if the noise gets louder with speed then there is a flag

This. Solid mounts will transfer noise and vibration information from you motor, trans, tc into the cabin. Just adding my rear diff bushings = rear diff noise in the car.

The 6 speed whines less thena five speed?

I switched over recently to a five speed and 1st gear whines loud in low rpms...Sounds like a RC.

When I got my TC rebuilt by Shep (stg II), it also whined after I installed it (not any where as loud). Although you could not hear it in high gear/speed, that was the difference.

As stated, a whine will always happen because of the ring and pinion mesh.
