I have a 2006 Evo IX with only 55k miles. Every since i bought it back in May it has had this whine only in first gear; cruising, accelerating, or decelerating. Car runs perfect and there is no noise in any other gear. Sounds like the transfer case, but i want to make sure it is not going out or anything. Just recently changed all fluids in car 1k miles ago. Car had bolt ons and GSC S1 cams when i bought it, but now has an FP Red with supporting mods.

 

Standard. Nothing to worry about. 1st gear whines in these cars.

Just about every evo I have been in. Completly normal!!!!

I added RedLine Heavy Shock Proof (1:2) to the Diaqueen and it quieted down a bit. But it's still there...

 

Nice to know. I was a little worried about my 1st gear whining but I'm glad its normal.
