The small plastic piece I THINK is a spacer between the rubber grommet and the actual pump. If your pump is running fine, you are probably okay without it. I think it will just help to keep the rubber grommet pushed to the top of the pump spout.

I have done this install 6 times now because I had a DOA pump, I can do this in and out in about 15 min flat Words of wisdom: If you are careful on the install and your pump isnt doing anything, odds are its the pump. I have an FP branded 255 and the guy didnt sound at all surprised when I told him I thought it was shot on arrival. Less fuel in the tank the better because it gets everywhere and the higher the fuel level in the tank the more that gets into every nook and cranny of the pump housing and therefore all over your garage and workbench. Also, you do need a good amount of engine turn over to get fuel back in the lines after you are done. It started to kill my mini battery and I thought I had another bad pump, but I hooked up to 120V wall juice and it started right up. have fun

Words of wisdom for kris - try not taking too long unless you enjoy the art of huffing. I think my install took 45 minutes, largely because I suck at puzzles and my hands are kinda big. It is a very easy install, though.

Sorry for the delay in responding, yes the little plastic ring is placed on the output part of the fuel pump to insure the rubber grommet/ seal is firmly seated in the fuel pump housing. Some have had success in not using it however for the extra 10 seconds it takes to put on it is well worth using, if the seal is not sufficient your pump can be running and yet you have 0 fuel pressure.

Ok thanks. Well I reused the OEM grommet with the OEM plastic ring, I think it should be fine then. Car seems to be doing ok.
