Walbro fuel pump problems

I started my car 2 days ago was leting it warm up and then it died and would not start agian. My walbro 255 has only been instaled for 27 days and i generally only drive the weekends. i have basic boltons and dynoflash custom tune......So i pulled the seat off made sure all the conections were tight but no luck. I had a hunch or i guess i was praying it was just the fuel pump, so i pulled the 255 out and replaced it with the stocker and it started and runs fine. this was the walbro 255 model 342. I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem

No probs after two months. Maybe just a loose wire connection? I've never heard of Walbro having problems when installed correctly.

Don't know if it's the pump, but if you have a custom Dynoflash, by replacing the stock pump, you will run too lean and need to be retuned back to the stock pump.

I too have been worried about the reliability of the Walbro over the OEM over the long term. Will it perform years from now the same? If something does happen and it fails, you are screwed with the warantee since you cannot replace it with the OEM that works perfectly fine.

I have been having second thoughts about needing the pump upgrade with my mild bolt on mods. It was recommended by several people here and tuners for that "safety margin". But it makes a ton of noise on a hot day and I feel it was probably overkill for me to switch it. I am tuned for the pump now and would have to be reflashed to stock fuel levels for the OEM.

i have 2 buddys with the same pump and installed by the same people ( the 3 of us) they have no problems and mine prolly has only 10 days of use.

and yes i know that with my tune the stock fuel pump will not be able to keep up thats why the car has and will be parked till i get a new pump

Yeah, I heard that they either work or don't right out of the box. So it's weird that it ran for 10 days. make sure the pump was sitting flush to the top in the plastic pump housing and was locked in properly.

Heard usually its a hit or miss on the pumps, they dont work or they work..

Ive had mine for 2 months works great,I can hear it but only if I turn the radio off,and my exhaust is loud also so it drowns that noise out...

from what it's worth, some tuners haven't had issues with stock fuel pump yet.

Does anyone have solid number proving the stock pump is no good?

I had my pump for 7 months. No problems but how would I know? I hear it on a very hot day after several boost pulls. Otherwise, it's pretty silent.

Since this pump has been around for years and used on other cars, what is the failure rate for them over time. Do they eventually wear out? Should I just replace it with a new one in a couple years? Too many questions. Anyone with years of experience dealing with these pumps, your comments would be appreciated.

i am currently have backfire problems, after i installed the pump today the car was running fine, after a short trip around town to make sure eveything was kosher, i was heading back home and anytime i hit boost the car would backfire, i pulled my plugs and they were pretty clean. I think i must be running waaaaaaay to rich because the car is spooling at 1000 rpm and nothing but brap brap brap brap like a wrc car after that, i am figuring that is the fuel running through the exhaust ports through the turbo. so tomorrow i will be replacing the walbro with the stocker and ordering some cooler plugs to hopefully nulify this situation.
