Is This Normal??

When I first drive my car for the first couple minutes (when it's cold). I cannot reach full boost. I know it's not safe to do that because the car is not warmed up, so I figure it is a safety precaution of the ECU. However, this also happens when the car is warmed up, even after warming up for ten minutes (snowy, freezing weather). I've looked into a boost leak and have not found anything abnormal.

Is this feature where the ecu limits boost to only about 10lbs, until the engine temp. reaches a certain point, then will allow full boost on all evos? I assume the ecu is limiting the wastegate duty cycle to 50%. Any one have further input or comments? Thanks.

you shouldnt get on it until its warmed up but what you are expiriencing is not normal. you either have a boost leak, a wastegate sticking open, or maybe even a problem with the turbo itself.

Well, I know the reasons why not too, however, sometimes (late for work) I want to get on it more.

I have no modifications, and the dealer told me it was normal and could not find anything else abnormal. And the mechanic said all the evos he's worked on have that feature. It makes sense, but I dont know why I am just experiencing it since this has only been happening for a short time.

Any further input? Thanks!!

Let me get your situation clear, you said it does it when the car is both cold and fully warmed up?
You should be able to hit full boost when the vehicle is fully warmed up, if not something is wrong. have you look into any vacumn leak?

ahh sorry i missed something. After a couple minutes of driving, I can reach full boost. So I feel like when the car hits a certain temperature, the ecu allows full boost. i've done a boost leak test and had it to the dealer and they found nothing as well, and said it was normal until the engine warms up.

Do you have a MBC? This seems odd. I'm not sure if it's my MBC, but if I wanted to, I could hit full boost within seconds of starting my car. I don't go more than 1-3psi until the needle is registering on the gauge.

The car's ecu will pull wastegate duty depending on how cold the coolant is... i.e. when you first start the car.

It's normal and it's a safety feature so everything can heat up to operating temperatures when you do get on boost.

it is normal...when the motor warms up, the ecu will allow more boost. what you are describing is completely normal
