I would not go with the Quartermaster... I have 5k on mine and I think it's shot. This is with no real launches and only 325whp/330trq. Now it may have been the install, I've had problems since day 1 and only recently seem to have resolved them. But at this point it appears to be too late.

So don't rule it out completely, just if you decide to go with it, make sure you have an installer that's done it before... not just done a clutch before, but specifically done a quartermaster before...

My Advice:

I wouldn't even consider the QM unless the car is a dedicated track car. It is a terribly noisy clutch that has poor street manners and kills off-idle torque. If you live in the hills, you will absolutely hate trying to move from a stop with the car pointed uphill - no slippage, no torque. When you're decelerating in gear, the resonance of the discs sounds like a loud exhaust pipe rattle both inside and outside the car - which cannot be fixed.

The Carbonetics clutch has good reviews, but those who have one will be in for sticker shock when they go to rebuild it. The rebuild cost approximates the cost of a new clutch, which makes it more or less a throwaway item when it comes to rebuild time.

I have the SPEC Super Twin (ST) presently, and unless there is something unexpected that I have yet to witness, I have no reason to even look at anything else. It has 1200 ft/lb torque capacity, has excellent street manners, and is quiet. It's still lighter than a factory clutch, but it's much easier to drive in the hills. Drifto equalled the same track performance with his SPEC vs. the QM he had in it previously, but the SPEC is far better than the QM and Tilton on the street.

WOW! Do they honestly rate it at this level? I can get a 14,000NM cover for my Exedy Twin Disc, wich is over 40% stronger than their standard twin disc. . and they only rate that to about 550 ft/lb torque capacity. .

The standard ETD they rate at around 425 ft/lb torque capacity.

I wonder if SPEC has actually tested it on something like an alcohol dragster - you know, one of the few cars out there actually capable of 1200 ft/lb of torque. . .

The SPEC clutch is sounding more and more like a winner so far. Seems each performs well with high power. I guess the only other differences is driveablity and the cost to rebuild.

Any other experiences out there? I am sure there has to be more people out there with these clutches than who have commented here.
