Mic is close to timing belt cover, noise difficult to localise even with stethoscope, nothing obvious when I remove the top cambelt cover. Been happening for months, not really getting worse, I thought it might be tappets. Anyone recognise the noise (like someone tapping a spoon gently about once a second)?

Castrol Edge sport 0W40 oil.

25000 miles original engine, runs great. Tapping noise disappears when warm.

Service schedule would suggest belts in another year, tempted to do them sooner.

How does it sound with the oil filler cap off. The engine will throw oil out of the cap so don''t leave it off long.

A quick squirt of silicone spray into the exhaust cam pulley bearing has shut it up for now.

I have the same problem as you. I took it in to mitsu and they say that it was my drive belt. I though it was my lifters, but it was not.
