That's what the SD (speed density) patch does. It uses a map sensor and IAT sensor.

Stock maf, I went a 10.45 on a 3" intake pipe, I ran the 10.36 on a 4" intake pipe, but I don't think it gave me any power, just alot of idle problems.

I just got the SD setup running a few days ago.

So is the speed density the same as the GM blow through mod with translator?

I think I might need to do some searching lol.

Honestly, I haven't looked at how the GM/translator implements it's speed density.

If you want to research the SD patch for the stock ECU, just go into the ECUFlash subforum. jcsbanks implemented it and mrfred has ported it to other ROMs.

Basically, it removes the maf sensor and replaces the maf reading in the airflow calcs with map. You need to have a map sensor installed and an IAT sensor installed. It's usually implemented in a way that load = map at standard temperature, but can be tuned any way you wish.

Yeah, with the SD patch there is NO MAF at all, just like the AEM EMS setups. No restrictions at ALL. Its gonna become a very popular mod once its been patched for all of the popular ROM's.

No, the 3" and 3.5" GM MAFs are just that... a much bigger, freer flowing MAF set up.

Sure would be nice to see David do a GM MAF before SD... might not feel like he'd need to dick with SD after that

Well, at least it's my understanding that a few of the OE ECU tuning Guru's have belted out some serious power with the larger MAFs. He's met one or two of said Guru's in person

Thats the beauty with the patch and the stock ECU community. There won't be any 'dicking' around once they get it implented really.

Oops... to be clear, that was not a condescending comment at SD... not at all. I just know David. If he gets into a comfortable spot that "works" (ie AEM), you have to prod him to go further. I think I was "suggesting" to him the OE ECU was the way to go for a daily driver back in 04-05' ish when but only a few people had even started to unlock the potential.

Dave would you care to discuss what changes you made to the knock tables?

My buddy is on a 2.3 and we had to make significant changes to get rid of false knock.

I didn't change the knock tables to be honest. I don't remember how they came to be modified but I think it could have been through a Tephra mod, not sure if that is correct or not. I did not change the personally though, so I have no answer.

I have no desire what-so-ever to put a GM MAF in the car, sorry. It's stock MAF or SD for me. I've had a few guys contact me and send me roms for the car and JSCbanks has offered all the help I need. It should be a pretty easy swap.

Right now I am seriously frustrated with getting the wide band to work in the logger. I have to really thank fastfreddie for all the help he has been providing. Hopefully tomorrow I'll have a break through. Time is so limited.

i been considering doing the SD swap. but my question is has it been flawless? is there bugs in it and how reliable is it. i am trying to think of the right way to say this but is it as safe as the MAF being in the car??

Small update. The car has been sitting. For once I have been busy on our EVOX and it has come a hell of a long way lately. I decided I didn't like the white Volks on the car so we put them up for sale. Problem is they sold immediately, like in 24 hours. I was stuck with the car on jack stands because I did not get my new wheels yet. Then two sets of wheels showed up. Neither of which clear the stock brakes without a spacer, no big deal but I just don't want a spacer on this car. (I do run them on the BadBish/my RS.) So now I have two sets of brand new 18x8 wheels I bought sitting in the shop, they will be up for sale "cheap" soon.

Tomorrow there is a track rental. I want to run the car there. We mounted the slicks on it today, I washed it, drained the pump gas out of it and we put the only 5 gallons of E85 we had back in it.

The car is still running on the STOCK MAF. It is completely unmodified. I don't like to get ahead of myself but the plans are to run very-very well tomorrow. I'd like to better the 10.65 that it has already run. Should be pretty easy to better than with the slicks.

Keep in mind this car is "heavy".

Here is what I have removed from it:

Front and rear bumper beams
Spare tires/jack
Rear evap canister
EGR and intake manifold bracket.

That's it. heater, a/c, air bags, sunroof, interior with all the carpet, sound deadener, factory seats, 8, yes 8 speakers, double DIN TV/NAV etc. Stock brakes, stock rotors, upgraded rear sway bar.

I'm not making excuses before hand but this car is heavy and some of you may think we are shooting for 9's. I want to say ahead of time that is not really the goal as I truly feel it is impossible to do with the weight, stock ecu, stock maf, E85 and a red at 30 psi of boost. I am not building another race car, just would like to see the full potential of a combination like this that can and is driven every single day in full comfort and is QUIET!!

So wish us luck and I hope to update this thread with some good news 24 hours from now.
