Question straight pipe catback

So i'm currently trying to save up for a Works Catback, but race season has already started up and i'd like to get rid of that extra restriction when im out at the race track. So for $50 a local exhaust shop would make me a 3 inch catback pipe.

It would just be 1 solid pipe going from my hfc all the way out. He would of course install hangers and a hole for the o2 sensor. So my question is, would this be worth it out at the drags. What kind of gain would i see, if any? Thanks for the help in advance.

IMO, no. I would save the money and buy the entire turbo back exhaust when you can afford it.

You are talking about the muffler part correct? I think you will get very minimal gains. Look at the bright side, at least it will sound sick and get attention.

It would replace my stock IP and stock muffler.

I already have a 3 inch DP and a 3 inch HFC is that makes a difference.

I think you should get rid of that high flow cat and go with a test pipe. That will gain you some power. Other than that you pretty much maxed out on your turbo back if it truly has 3 inch piping without tapering.

Our stock catback is restrictive. I was referring to the three inch downpipe and cat that you have. Swap out the high-flow cat with a test pipe, get a catback exhaust and call it a day.

Yes, of course you will see gains. I think the confusion is most people get a cat back before they do a DP and HFC.

The car came with a DP when i bought it at the dealership and my stock cat went out, so I replaced it with a HFC. Ya, people ask me about it all the time.

Wouldn't the gains be very minimal?

All I can say is, most people only see a 5-9whp increase with just a catback. But adding a DP, HFC and o2 housing + a catback yeilds like 20-30whp. I don't see how having a stock exhaust on a DP/HFC combo would yield much power at all, maybe again only like 5-9. Finally uncorking his exhaust and having 2.5-3" all the way back with no muffler would give him a full TBE and much more of a boost in power then any of these components seperately.

I personally felt that the gains normal seen by the DP and HFC would have been restricted by the stock catback, and that by opening up my catback i'd see gains not only from the catback, but from the dp and HFC.

I could be wrong though.
