**** just finished reading the thread and saw Dirks comments so I guess i'm wrong. However my tob was replaced along with the disk and pressureplate under warranty in an attempt to cut down the decel noise.... noise in neutral went away... decel noise was/is still there.

I have the noise... I went to the dealer, he said it was normal.
Basically, i first thought it was springs making the noise, but Iwould get it on flat surfaces. Usually I can hear it around 4th gear, going around ~40mph with my foot off the gas. Once I apply pressure to the gas pedal, the sound goes away. The sound doesnt "rattle" continuously but on maybe a 5-10 sec interval only at certain RPMs/gears? I think thats what I noticed. I guess I can describe it as...a very faint sound that soundsl ike metal bending...you know like in those movies where a building is falling apart and it makes creaking noises. But it's very light. And I don't think anyone else has heard it from the passanger side when I asked them if they can hear a sound.
Plus on the whole Neutral / rev to 4k sound... I think thats just the driveshaft making some noise... I also pointed that out to the dealer, he just said it was a normal sound and that the transmission will make some noise when engaged.
Edit : Just went outside....and turned on the ac, put it in neutral and just let it idle. My car is vibrating a lot harder now with AC on... =\

vicbdn, best description i have heard yet ! lift of the the gas in 4th gear at 4k and it sounds like that, then depress the clutch and it goes away. how about " putting a spoon in a blender" if you could eliminate the sound of the blender. my car has 8000 miles on it and i have only had it for 2 weeks so i am very sensitive to the noises it makes it didnt seem to make the noise when i first got it at 7500 miles. i am taking it to the dealer tomorrow.
Hi, my ralliart has a rattle also. though I can't hear it decelerating or at speed. the only time I hear it is when the car is in neutral and i hit the gas a bit and it stops rattling at about 1500 rpms or when I push the clutch in. I'm going to the dealership on wednsday and was going to have them look at it. So my questiuon is; is this really all that normal and should I insist that they take care of it or just let it go if they say all the cars do it. I'm a bit worried about how long my car will be in the shop if they replace it and I'm assumeing that with only 5500 miles on my car it's under warrenty.
So I've owned my Evo for all of 1 week now. The tranny noise sounds like normal gear rattle to me. Maybe some of you guys should try driving around an E30 M3. Then you'll know what real tranny rattle sounds like.

Ahh... I always wondered what the rattle noise is. I was going to take it to the dealership but it looks like I don't need to.
I heard the rattle last summer, and now again this summer. (My EVO has 25k on it.) It is definately at it's worst, as Mad_VIII said, with the A/C on, car in neutral with the clutch pedal all that way out. I don't really hear it with the A/C off.
I've been trying not to use my A/C as much as possible because any rattling in my car annoys the **** out of me. I have finally given in though, the 110 degree, 30 mile drive home from work at 4:30 is just too damn hot.

I have the EXACT same rattle. With the A/C on and sitting at idle, it rattles like crazy. If you push in the clutch the rattle stops. If you turn off the A/C the rattle stops. If you happen to go through the drive trough at McDonalds and you are next to the wall, it sounds VERY loud. It is very annoying. I believe that it is an issue with the throw-out bearing...

I believe I have the sound too. My sounds like the car is fixin' to throw a rod, then when I push in the clutch it goes away. I also have the decel noise so bad that I have to turn the radio up all the time.
Started around 4K and the dealership keeps telling me that it is normal input shaft engagement. That is even what the District Mitsubishi Rep said.
I am screaming B*** Sh**! I have contacted an attorney.

I also have this "ROARING" sound when I gear down. The longer I drive the louder it is. I figure because everything has heated up and the fluid is thinner.
I have finally contacted an attorney, here in KY, that specializes in Lemon Autos. I have done all that I can, and the dealership tells me it sounds normal and the Dist. Rep for Mitsubishi USA says that it is normal. I have been driving a stick for years. My Fords didn't make these sounds, and my Honda definitely didn't. The dealership Tech told me that I "need to realize that I am not driving my Honda any longer, and that Mitsubishi's make noises."

What these cheap bastards really want you to do is to let it run as is because hopefully something else will break. Then they'll shove you with a, "sorry, that's not under warranty because of" line. 1500 dollars please.
i just started having this problem. im at 11,500 or so miles right now and i just had my 264/264 cams installed. i thought it was my downpipe (helix version 1) because it seems to be rubbing against the subframe. anyone else think this is whats causing the noise?
