Exclamation Hesitation during intial drive?

I've had this issue for a while now and I've always chalked it up as being normal. I am, however, curious to see if it's an issue that others have or if it's something wrong with my car. Anyway, during the first mile or two of my drive, the car will seem to hesitate in 1st or 2nd gear. Say I'm just driving around my neighborhood in first, the car will seem to buck and jolt under consistent throttle application. I guess it's a bit hard to explain...almost as if the car is trying to pass something through the system. Other that initial problem, she runs and drives perfectly once everything is up to normal operating temps. This happens more frequently when it's cold and goes away once the car is warm. The car has basic bolt-ons, but nothing too serious. Any thoughts?

I had the same problem with my VIII and I have it with my X now. The problem seems to be worse in cold weather, and disappears as soon as the engine is warm. Seems to be due to revs dropping too fast during the gear change (even with the SST) when the engine is cold.

Interesting...this won't necessary happen between gears. If I start the car up and just drive a few hundred yards in first (obviously not very fast) the car will hesitate and "buck" even when I try my best to keep the throttle position consistent (which is hard when the car is jerking back and forth a bit).

cold timing retard?

It makes the first few miles of the car feel terrible. Removing the retard with the ecu periphery eliminates that but has the quirkiness to make the engine rev a bit higher when cold instead of idling.

I've also noticed that when i made the switch to e85 the car will run a little rich then go lean just for a moment making the car sputter when accelerating for the first couple of seconds on a cold start. Taking it really easy and giving it a constant pedal for 10 seconds cures that.

This is a normal issue with cold startup. Take it easy on the engine till it warms up or let it sit for a few seconds before leaving.

Great! Thanks guys. I figured it was just a cold start issue.

Same happens to mine sometimes. Its hard to be paitent, but try to let it warm up for 2 -3 minutes.. def better for the motor anyway, esp in cold startup
