Ihi vf37 ?!?!?!

IHI VF37 turbo.. Any one know this turbo??

If so, please tell me more about it.. Max boost at? max power? max TQ.. Everything basically..

A friend of mine suggested it claiming that it really powerful compared to the stock IX turbo, yet it spools up very very fast!!!

Please let me know as much amount of info as possible.. I want more power, with 400+ lb-ft of torque(main aim), without compromizing the drivability(lag)..

ThanX n Advance

Waleed.

Your friend would be incorrect. To get that IHI unit to come near the power of the IX turbo, you'd have to run it ***** to the wall....and if you were going to max out your setup, the IX turbo will take you much farther. The IHI unit is found in the STI, and if it was such a bad boy turbo, why do most Subaru guys ditch it for 20g variant turbos? Save your money, and stay with the IX turbo.

Just some food for thought.

IHI has nothing on a factory evo turbo. whp for most sti's with vf34's, vf39's, vf40's ect ,make anywhere from 300-330whp. they spool slow and dont make peake power till late like a honda. well not as bad as a honda.. haha.

i believe its off a jdm spec subaru, the only advantage over the stock 9 turbo is that it is ball bearing so it might spool a litlle faster, but definately wont make any more power as said above.

Well the VF37 has a 47.9mm wheel and a IX turbo has a 48.3mm wheel. Subaru's stock don't run as much boost as Evo's so I"m thinking the Subi turbo will fall out of efficiency sooner than the IX turbo but that's just a guess and not based on anything. I certainly dont think it would be an upgrade or worth the work to install it. Your better off with a green, red, BBK, Tomei, IX turbo IMO.

Just thought I'd Add my .02 - Enjoy

Read someone had tuned Max Boost at 23 PSI
Stock boost is around 17.5 PSI

VF37 (Thrust Bearing)
Enter the age of twin scroll IHI turbos. Same compressor housing as VF30/34, however has a new twin scroll P25 exhaust housing that provides slightly better top end output due to reduced exhaust pulse interference. Twin scroll also provides better spool up for improved low down response over the VF30/34. This turbo is good for 400HP and used on JDM STI from 2003 onwards.

IHI VF37
(430cfm, 250-325whp, Modification Required)
This is the standard equipment turbocharger used on the JDM V8-V9 Subaru Impreza WRX STI. The VF37 is a twin-scroll turbocharger that utilizes a thrust bearing design and a P25 exhaust housing. It is essentially a fast spooling VF30.
Expect to achieve full boost with the proper mods and a quality tune between 2800-3300rpms. 2002-2005 WRX owners will need fuel upgrades for this turbocharger and proper engine management is highly recommended for all vehicles.

IHI VF36
(430cfm, 250-325whp, Modification Required)
This is the standard equipment turbocharger used on the JDM V8-V9 Subaru Impreza WRX STI Spec-C Type RA. The VF36 is a twin-scroll turbocharger that utilizes a ball bearing design, a P25 exhaust housing, and Titanium (possibly TiAl?) compressor wheel for improved spool. It is essentially a fast spooling VF34.
Expect to achieve full boost with the proper mods and a quality tune between 2800-3300rpms. 2002-2005 WRX owners will need fuel upgrades for this turbocharger and proper engine management is highly recommended for all vehicles.

This information is pretty accurate. I had this setup on my Ver.8 JDM STi Setup 2.0L, I made 270whp safe tune DD on a Mustang Dyno, it also made the same amount with the Evo3 16G and supporting mods. A STOCK USDM STi making 300hp dyno's at 225-235whp on a Mustang Dyno (roughly). Although I have not recieved a time slip for 1/4 mile with the turbo and supporting mods 750cc injectors, 3" Turboback, EcuTek Tuned, SRI and redline at 8200. The 37 was Faster Spooling than the 16G, I would assume get to the 1/4 in no more than 13.0. Really good mid-top end also! Would assume it be faster on the 2.5L. But is mainly good on the 2.0L making it spool/move more like a 2.5L.

Here's a link for some specs on a setup going down the 1/4 at 12.7 with supporting mods.

I am currently going to try and get a 20G wheel to replace the VF37's and get a port. Since it will free up some much needed power, and its not too cost effective, the PE1825 wheel is about $400 while the 20G wheel is around $150 (depending on where you get yours from), will put out close to the same power at the 1825.

Generally comparing the stock evo to the stock sti, the stock USDM STi (w/vf39) is usually a bit faster in the 1/4 and if the STi (Vf39) had a p&p and maybe EL headers it would make the turbo perform almost the same as the 37. The 37 isnt amazingly much better than the Single Scroll turbo's offered by Subaru or companies making turbo's for Subaru but it is a good all around turbo none the less. The 37 makes for a more responsive car, but delivers close to the same peak power as a p&p'd vf39. The peak power doesn't change much but delivers a broader power curve. Thats why not so many people are going with a 36/37 twinscroll plus the price is high for switching to twinscroll (headers, uppipe,Downpipe all have to be made specially for the 36/37). Many are opting for a larger single scroll with P&P or larger Compressor wheel to achieve a broader power curve, or a twinscroll being a GT30, 35, 40, producing fast spool and Crazy Mid-Top end. The 36/37 is really good for mountain runs or auto-x. Making a quicker spool but usually not more than 400-600 more rpm's faster over a stock STi Turbo. But the Vf39's have been known to crack and not after much use. Many who want power opt for an aftermarket Mitsu turbo design using the 16,18,20G wheels.

But I read that some are able to push more power with the EVO 9 16G like 325-375whp. So like MR. EVO IX said go with a green, red, tomei exc.. Would just depend on what your goals are. Also notice my post's (lol). I dont post on here too often if at all :P, but even so effictively using the SEARCH button is the Key to Knowledge, Google too.
