So yesterday i went crusing and i did a few Hi-speed pulls. Nothing crazy started in 3rd gear up to 130 or so. After that I'm getting this wierd wine. It sounds like some kind of a pump but i have no idea what it is. Seems to be coming from the front of the car in the engine bay. It also des it when im parked and rev the car a little. Has anyone eve expiriance something like this? This is a 2006 MR.

It looks like its th power steering pump. I will update if i get more info.

So you're taking your car up to ~11,000 RPM and now it has a weird whine?

i have a ix mr, and my third doesnt go up to 130...at 8.5krpm

Sorry for the mis understanding. I started in third gear and than took it up to 130.

Any ideas on the problem?

I would have someone rev the motor with the hood open so you can try to pinpoint were the noise is and go from there

I just bought a stethoscope. Im going to see whats going on in the pumps and whats under some of the covers.

Did you check the fluid level on the power steering? When its is low it will whine especially when its turning at a faster RPM. Good luck!

Thats what I was hopeing for in the begining. But the fluid level is about 1/8" under the max mark.

does it make the noise in neutral? or just in gear?

The car has 32k on it now. It makes the sound all around nutral or not. i used the stethoscope and the only component to be making that whining noise in the Power Steering Pump.
