the right turbo for a 2.3L stroker

Hi folks,

I need some help from you guys, since here where I live (Hungary) there is only a few tuned evo, so I cant realyl ask them.

I need a turbo upgrade as my current turbo cannot deliver enough high rpm HP for my taste.

My current setup:

Tomei 2.3L stroker (86 dia) 9.2:1 compression
272 HKS in/out cams+ HKS pulleys
ported cylinder head
Evo 9-16G turbo
1000cc injectors
76mm exhaust system, no cat
GEMS ecu
custom airbox

right now the machine develops 445 lbft torque at 2850 rpm, and its peak power is 426 crank HP- all measured on a dynoproject dyno.

I am running 1.35 bar pressure right now.

I am looking for a turbo which would spool a little later, but in return would deliver me 500 crank HP.

Here we have 100 octane steet pump gas.

I am looking for a 3071r or a 3076, but i dont know **** about those turbos and dont know anyone who actually own any of those- so I will really appreciate any help which you can give me.

thank you for reading this, looking forward to your posts,

George

I used to run a 3071 on a 2.0L built block ... do yourself a favor and stay away from this one. It didn't work too well on the 2 liter, I can't see it doing any better on the 2.3.

IMO a 3076 would be the bare minimum I would go with on a 2.3. I run a 50 trim (similar size to a 3076) on my built 2.0, and I'm pretty happy with it. If I had a 2.3, I'd probably lean towards something like an HTA35R (twin scroll if you can afford it), though. Spoolup should still be pretty good, and the power would be stoopid good.

If you don't mind a little bit of lag, you can't go wrong with an FP Red or a GT35R. I ran a 35r on my 2.3 for about a year, and have no complaints about it. I think it is the perfect streetable big turbo for a stroker powered Evo. As far as power, with the Red, 500+ WHEEL horsepower should be attainable, with the 35r you can get closer to 600whp even with 100 octane fuel. You will definitely be over 500 crank HP with either setup.

HTA35R is too big if your goals are 500HP
FP EVO RED is good advice. stock frame bolt on turbo. Or even the Tomie turbo if you want to maintain super fast spool.
