500-600hp clutch options?

i tried searching this info, but didnt find what i need...

im looking to see what would be a good clutch for the for the stated power range, i know of a few that will hold the power but. i just have a few questions.

is a twin disc necessary?

do all twin discs require to convert from pull-to-push?

this is NOT a DD and it will see a lot of strip time, would a 4puck(like act) hold up???

i currently have a ACT heavy duty PP and street disc, but i'll be going from my current setup to a built 2.0L & a HTA35. so while its apart i figured replace the clutch. what i have now i dont think will last...

ACT 6puck or 4 would work for sometime but fail after a while, quarter master is a good choice, but all those shims are going to keep me away from it. Exedy twin which I am using so far works great, I have not abused it much yet but then again my stock clutch lasted a good while so I plan to make this one also. As I look at it, if I dont like the exedy twin and it wears out fast I can upgrade to a triple, and you dont have to convert them all to push from pull, oh ya im on a 2.3 HTA turbo

get an exedy twin, I've had it for about 10k miles now and it's held up great and have raced the car last year and this year and still going strong. easy clutch to dd with and don't have to convert anything

I agree that the Exedy (pull type) or QuarterMaster Twin (push conversion) would be a great option. A single disc would likely hold up for a while, but you may end up replacing it sooner than you would like. Also the twin disc will shift faster and everyone likes lower ET's

Whichever unit you decide on please let me know as I guarantee the lowest pricing on either of these units!

Everyone raves about the quartermasters and they do not have the clip problem exedy twins have.

My Spec twin has a QM hydraulic tob, and the only problem I can see with it is that it puts brake fluid inside the bell housing, and if you have a leak, the tranny is coming off to fix it. Adam at MAP recommended the Comp Twin because it is still push, but the linkage brings the hydraulics out of the tranny. I hope I don't regret not taking his advise.

Tilton is only good if its pretty much a dedicated strip car. I just made the decision to drop the $4k on it, but my car is lucky if it sees 25 miles a week on the street. That consists on from my apartment to school or the lot we hang out at. Otherwise its a horrible clutch, its very high priority in the maintenance department. If you go that route, you better know how to pull the trans yourself or your going to be looking at lots of labor charges to pull and replace your trans.

Tilton carbon carbon was suggested to me by Shepherd but of course it was way out of my budget.

Went with the next best option the Quartermaster. And Shepherd thank god hooked me up with a unit ASAP as i needed it really fast.
People say that its a horrible clutch to drive on a daily basis like the Tilton but that didn't bother me since i just drive the car when i want to have fun and no daily sitting in traffic.

The leak issue was mentioned to me too, but until now i haven't seen such problem to occur.

QM twin or Exedy Triple. 500-600whp is not the range you want to be using a single plate since it wont shift where the car is making power (8k). The exedy twin doesnt like being pushed hard above 500 at the drag strip.

Quartermaster Twin 7.25' V-Drive FTW.

I got mine put in this week. The first few days of driving were ROUGH. I mean ROUGH! But once those big beef patties get smoothed out you're in business.

It is important to note that you will have to adjust the shims after a while to keep good clearances. But other than that it's a fantastic clutch. Very violent! lol
