Is Royal Purple worth the $$$
I've been running Royal Purple for the past 30k miles...no problems. This is on a DD evo IX with full bolt-ons and boosting 25 psi on 91. Also, I change my oil every 3-4k miles and when I do it still looks good and no signs of failing bearings or metal shavings in the drained oil. I'm sure that Amsoil is great too, and I know that Penn is good. There are many good choices for full synthetic oils and each might be a little better in some areas then others. Just stick with the known goods, RP, Mobile, Penn, Amsoil, etc and monitor your oil every week and change it out at 3-4k...that's what I do.
here's an example. I ran RoyalPurple because it was an emergency and it was the only things I could get my hands on. I decided to keep using it until I replaced my clutch, which I just did after 4,000 miles.
Needless to say I am on the search for a new transmission, transfer case and ACD Pump. Its all completely burnt up.
I called the guys at ShepTrans and sent them some pictures and they asked "What fluid did you run?". When I told them Royal Purple they said, "Oh theres your whole mistake!".
That **** poured out of my t-case and transmission like damn silver water. It had no viscosity to it whatsoever and now I am out a little over $2,000!!!!!!!!

I have a homework to do, and it will be to research what has been bothering me for years:
Royal Purple for some reason is good for the first couople hundred miles but you are no the first one to complain even guys using it in their engines say that the stuff thins out after a cuple hundred miles,,,,, iam going to start my research by cheking on their NOAK testing if they dont even have a NOAK test then that will explain alot, that would mean that they do not want us to know about their engineering side of the oil
Check this out (i know you're asking about redline's motor oil, in which i have no experience with it, but have used their transmission fluid):

It does a comparison of 14 different brands of gear lubes in 9 different categories:
1. meeting the required viscosity grade of an application
2. mainatin viscosity when subjected to temperature changes
3. retain viscosity during use
4. function in cold temperatures
5. resist high temperatures and oxidation
6. protect under extreme pressures
7. protect agains wear
8. resist foaming
9. prevent copper corrosion
Granted, AMSOIL doesn't meet the top of the list in all of these categories, but we're the only ones that consistantly remain in the top 5 in each of these tests.
I hope that this helps you and others out. If you want to order any AMSOIL products, shoot a pm to apagan01, myself, or vmrevo9 - not sure if he's a dealer. I'm sure either one of us will be able to help you out!

I really didn't think it would hurt to only use if for a few thousand miles.
Needless to say I have all RedLine fluids sitting in my shop now so I shouldnt have a problem anymore
Is any one else even the least but suspicious about a report prepared "For" a company that proves it's the best? I have no idea what oil is the best or if there is even a best but a lab may be inclined to provide results that the company wants id they want to get payed. I'm not saying it's wrong but it's something to think about.
I've ran Royal Purple in both the EVO and my bottle fed Prelude. In the Prelude, It thinned out really quick. Had it in for a little over a thousand miles and noticed the temp started getting a little higer, idle sounded a little out of wack, and I was using more gas than usual. Changed out to AMSoil and all that went away. Even with spraying its holding up.
In the EVO, started hearing a slight valve tic, gas mileage went down, thinned out after a few "entheusiastic" miles. With the turbo getting hot and the engine being pushed, that Royal Purple came out with the quickness. After AMSoil was put in that all went away. I also use AMSoil in the tranny and it shifts a lot smoother. VMRevo9 can vouch for me on that. He drove the EVO before and after.
I even put it in the wifes Dodge Nitro. She went to Jax this last weekend and didn't use as much gas as she normally does. Her engine even sounded better after switching over.
I'm so sure of AMSoil, I'll be willing to do that test and run mine for the 25K miles and then do the analysis and post the results. And no it won't be babied because anyone that knows me, knows I drive "with a purpose" whenever I can.

i personally use mobil 1, ive used royal purple trans fluid and it was garbage, it made no improvement to the shifting, and it set me back like 50 bucks!
so just from that experience im not trusting royal purple in my engine

I've talked to guys that run circle track cars and they use it for 1 race then drain it. Those same guys are seriously thinking about coming to me and switching to AMSoil. One guy is ready for me to get him sponsored by AMSoil.
the Amsoil tranny fluid feels alot smoother to me than redline MT-90. the high performance 10w-30 oil from amsoil is pretty good. they guarantee 15K miles for severe use (turbo, supercharged, towing) applications and 25K miles for n/a cars etc. see if you can run mobil 1 to that limit. i plan on sending in a sample at around 6-7K miles just to see the results. a friend at work has a turbo'd charged 400+ horsepower pontiac gtp and he just switched to amsoil he also plans on doing some oil sample test as well. i'm confident in this oil!
i've ran mobil 1,royal purple,q power and some other oils in my car and mobil 1 is probably is the best pretty soon here i'm gonna start running AMSOIL to protect my engine cause the miles are starting to get up there
