Question Aftermarket Exhausts

Hey all, I'm in the looking for a decent 3" exhaust system although I don't really want something too loud. I was looking at the HKS cat back which is only measured at 93dB. With the Evo, how much is the cat restricting air flow? Would a cat back only do half the job for example?

Cheers, any other tips on what I could look at be much appreciated.

PS: Had a look under the car the other day and was amazed at the restriction of the factory exhaust compared to some others. At the rear the exhaust comes out the side of the mufla..

hey man

im from nz aswell, are you looking at the hks silent hi power? its not the full 3" piping i dont believe but only marginly under so probably wont effect much.. hks also seem to have a taper down to 2.5" for the stock cat.. you dont really want that, in nz there are no laws about having a cat so i would ditch it they do restrict flow, you can get hi flow cats but having no cat will perform better. you could get a shop to make you up a custom exhaust with a good resonator and muffler combination should be quiet enough. I would also look into geting a
3" front pipe and test pipe (to replace cat). There is also the option of getting an aftermarket o2 housing this can free up even more power

good luck

I would got ETS and go for a 3.5" if you plan to upgrade! They are one of the only comps that make a nice 3.5". I have a pieced together 3", you can look at my sig, but everyone loves the exhaust tone. It sounds a bit like a diesel truck. I think it’s because of the Apexi N1 muffler. I would def get a cat delete! Your evo will be loud and its okay!

First off I wouldn't ask David how to change my oil! but agreed about the cost to ship to nz. How do you figure a 3.5" exhaust won't help with HP? I disagree!
