For those of you running E-85, do you check your ethanol consistency after every fill up and adjust the tune? If ethanol can be between E-70 and E-85 then how can you be sure that at every fill-up you aren't endangering the motor? Honestly I have a Shell that carries this fuel five minutes from my house but I am curious about the consistency of it. Would I need to carry a laptop around to ensure the tune is doing its job or what? If someone can reassure me that I will be fine then I am definately making this switch.

I just made the switch and so far so good, still getting the car tuned in. If you are worried about the content buy the gauge but the sensor is a bit pricey

Get the sticker! Once you're tuned for it, you are a friggin' flexfuel car!

I have seen some people running e85 with alky. Not sure how much "more" it helps, though.

I would assume with the proper gauges you could keep an eye on things, but having a small laptop in case you need to switch maps might be good. I believe 8's also have an option to switch maps with the sprayer, or something like that? Can't remember what I read long ago, and I have a IX so it didn't apply to me.

But I'm not going to drive my car to somewhere I'm not at often and find they don't have any e85 and I need fuel . Too much of a headache for me even if you get extra power.
Wait, you go +1 on the "...dumbest thing ever..." post due to inefficiency, but you would do it if more readily available? Didn't you sell your Evo? Get outta here!

My issue is also availability. For what's-his-nuts saying it is the dumbest thing ever, one thing to note is how cheap ethanol is (at least up here where available). The price actually offsets the inefficiency, again, you would want it readily available though.

It isn't like this a permanent switch, either. If the price goes up or it isn't as readily available, switch back.

I am confused about the "sprayer". I have no idea what you are talking about.

^Okay, lemme see if I can dig up that info.

Found the info in a Buschur thread from a while ago (again, I have a IX, so I can't verify this but you should be able to search for it). The intercooler spray switch allows for dual mapping.

I tried to use search to look for more info for you, but couldn't find anything. In fact, search wouldn't even find the Buschur thread that I saw this information in so something is not right at the moment? I'm sure there is info in the ECU section threads.

I think you are talking about the intercooler sprayer toggle switch. After 2004, Mitsubishi discontinued the intercooler sprayer due to the ACD. Thank you for your suggestion though. I think an ethanol content fuel analyzer would be my best option. Now all I need to do is figure out how to tune on E-85.

I don't daily drive my car so to me it makes perfectly good sense to switch to E-85 when its cheaper than 93oct and makes alot more power. I will be saving all kinds of money if I were to be running 110oct every weekend over E85. I have 4 stations around me so its not gonna be a issue getting the fuel.

Yeah, I think your in the wrong thread since it seems your really the only guy having anything negative to say about it.

Thanks for the info as I'm not too familiar with the changes made year-over-year with the VIII. Good luck learning how to tune for e85!
